Embedded dailymotion videos automatically start playing when a page loads.

Looked for a solution and saw there was a previous post about this will no help by dawntreader72014

    https://wordpress.com/forums/topic/help-all-dailymotion-videos-now-autostarting/

Its a year later and it looks like this is still a problem with wordpress. Its only dailymotion, youtube and self hosted videos aren’t doing this.

There is a section in wordpress help here which looks like its what I should be looking for, but this is apparently outdated documentation because I can’t find the block settings screenshotted here. (ctrl F autoplay). Where is this in this version of wordpress?

    Video block

I really wish developers wouldn’t always feel the need to move things around so much when they do an update. If the documentation above was accurate I wouldn’t have to make this post. “streamlining” also isn’t good when critical controls and settings are removed or hidden behind 20 navigational clicks instead of 4!! I thought everyone would have gotten annoyed at microsoft enough at some point or another to avoid doing that kind of thing.

I tried adding html about autoplay, or the advanced css class box with something about autoplay, but I am amateur at coding and if that is even a thing I was doing it wrong and kept getting errors.

Anyway, if anyone has a solution I would appreciate it. I don’t like it when videos start playing automatically, and don’t want that to annoy my readers. Fortunately its muted so it is that bad. But its still obnoxious on pages with several videos.

    Hi @atavisionary

Thanks for getting in touch! This support channel handles assistance on WordPress.com hosted sites.

atavisionary.com is hosted with a different hosting provider, and it’s using the open-source WordPress software (from WordPress.org). You can find out more about the differences on this help doc: https://wordpress.com/support/com-vs-org/

To get help with your issue, you can post on the WordPress.org forums here: https://wordpress.org/support/forums/ or contact your current hosting provider.

Hello emily or whatever you screen name is.

I am truly impressed about how shortsighted and inane a response that is. “how do I make this not my problem as quickly as possible?” This problem also affects wordpress.com associated sites. For example, this post I just made

A wordpress hosted site with an embedded video automatically playing.

Amazing. Wow. Hosted on wordpress. You complaint has been addressed. Are both sites not using almost the exact same software thus having similar problems? Well, now you know for sure wordpress hosted sites also have this problem. Now that your silly attempt to be astonishingly lazy has been called out, perhaps you could look into this problem ALL your users currently have?

  • Hi @atavisionary,

I understand that this issue is frustrating, and I appreciate you taking the time to share your concerns. However, I kindly ask that we keep our conversation respectful. We’re here to help, and a constructive discussion will make it easier to find a solution.

To clarify, WordPress.com and self-hosted WordPress.org sites use similar software but are separate platforms with different support channels. Your site, atavisionary.com, is hosted with a different provider and runs WordPress.org, meaning we’re unable to provide direct support for it. The best place to get assistance for self-hosted WordPress sites is the WordPress.org support forums or your hosting provider.

You people are absolutely worthless. Are you DEI hires? Or bots? The original post includes a link from a year ago about this same problem from a wordpress hosted site. None of you lazy POS bothered to help him because if you had I wouldn’t be here now. You probably didn’t even file an internal bug report. I made a brand new post on a wordpress hosted site and when making my last comment demonstrating this is a wordpres.com issue. Yet you just ignore that. You are either a bot or a re ta rd who is so lazy that you can’t help but stick to lowsy excuse. So the F what if I put a site you don’t like in a field in the original post? Are you really going to make me do an entirely new thread just to change that stupid field when I have not once, but twice demonstrated that this is a wordpress.com problem?

Does wordpress actually pay you incompetents a salary? I can’t believe they are even still in business with employees like you. Absolute grifter pretending to do something productive for this company. Or a bot. Bots might be that stubbornly obtuse and polite.

Frankly, I don’t care anymore. I can just use find a different video host. Enjoy keeping this problem alive for the rest of your users forever because everyone hired at wordpress is a room temperture iq t ard from a third world country.
