Embedded Flickr videos not working
-
I have recently begun to experience a problem embedding videos from Flickr onto my blog. I have successfully embedded Flickr videos in the past, but now new videos, as well as those had worked previously, simply come up with a message stating “This video is no longer available on Flickr,” though all videos are. I have followed the instructions as per the Flickr video FAQs page, and as I said, I have gotten videos to work in the past. Is anybody else having this problem? Any advice? Thanks for your help.

Please give us a link to your blog. Flickr videos are not as far as I know a supported format at WP.com.

My blog is http://amsterdamning.wordpress.com/ The specific posts with Flickr videos can be found at http://amsterdamning.wordpress.com/2008/04/23/the-national-park/ and http://amsterdamning.wordpress.com/2008/04/12/one-more-small-thing/
The second link, the one titled One More Small Thing, is the post where the video previously worked. It wasn’t until I saw that the video in The National Park post didn’t work today that I checked back on the other video, and discovered that it no longer worked.
I also couldn’t help but notice that the video on the Flickr Video FAQ, http://faq.wordpress.com/2008/04/22/how-do-i-embed-a-flickr-video/ no longer works either.

Both videos worked just fine for me. Try doing the Cookie Dance: log out, clear browser cache and cookies, sign back in again. You may need to do a complete restart.

I did everything you suggested, but they still don’t work. I’m most worried about other people being able to view the videos, so if others, like you, don’t have any problems, then I guess it’s not too big of a deal. I do want to thank you for your help, by the way.

You’re welcome. Sorry I couldn’t be more help.
Maybe it’s a browser issue? What browser and version are you using? I’m on FF 2.0.0.14.
-
I’m using Safari 3.1.1 but I’ve never had a problem with it before. I did just check the site using FF however and it worked fine. So I guess it is a browser problem but why it just manifested itself now I don’t know.

i am having problems embedding – the videos in my flickr account are clearly public – but when I post them to my wordpress account they are marked as sorry you don’t have permissions to view this video – private.
-
i am using ff 2.0.0.14 on a pc with xp. The post that is failing to show the public videos is here
http://thefirs.wordpress.com/2008/05/23/rhoscolyn-day-3-thursday/– do we have to enable the blog in the flickr account before this will work? I have not tried this yet – but since the videos in question are public and photos don’t seem to have a problem I can’t see why I should.

This is happening for me as well. I am getting a “you do not have permission to view this video” when the video is definitely public.
It appears that there is a “video_secret” param in the flickr embed code, and this is not getting passed when we do a wordpress [flickr video=blah] there needs to be somewhere for the “video_secret” param to go in the wordpress flickr video tag, something like this:
[flickr video=blah video_secret=34jh34h3] -
Sorry actually it isn’t called “video_secret”, its actually called “photo_secret”
flashvars=”intl_lang=en-us&photo_secret=09fa4d4c5d&photo_id=2519923335″

You can try either of following method to embed flickr videos on wordpress.
[flickr video=http://www.flickr.com/photos/john/2431720072/]
or
[flickr video=2431720072]if you are still having problem try uploading to youtube, metacafe, swiftvideos or some other uploading service.
-
robertclarkson – thanks for confirming it’s not just me. I am assuming that this is a bug in the wordpress embed code? Or can we override the flashvars sent?
-
It looks like you’ve solved it because the flickr videos in question are now visible on my blog – thanks whoever did it (not sure if the problem was on the wordpress side or the flickr side.)
-
Actually the problem is here again, see this post
http://ccnewtown.wordpress.com/2008/05/29/fantastic-funday/These videos are public and viewable on the flickr website – they are now shown as private on the wordpress blog. There is still some issue going on here- perhaps the videos have to be on flickr for a few days before they are embeddable…….
-
i have never uploaded any video on flickr is it any better??? I can understand if you are used to uploading on flickr then it is difficult to change. but I always prefer youtube it is easy and it works everywhere.
-
Flickr uploading is very easy and if you go over to Flickr direct rather than watch the embedded video you get a much nicer less cluttered screen that the garish youtube.
The videos in the web post I highlighted are now viewable. In conclusion there is some sort of time lag between uploading them on flickr and being viewable on flickr and then becoming public for embedding on wordpress. I don’t know at this stage whether this is 24 hrs , 48 hrs etc
