Embedded Google calendar
-
I have received complaints that some website viewers can’t see the embedded Goggle calendar on our site at https://leicestershirefootpaths.wordpress.com/calendar-of-walks/ I don’t have a problem with it myself and as it is the most viewed page on the site I suspect most can see it. What is going wrong for a small percentage of our site visitors?

Hi, there.
I just tried it in four browsers. It came up in Chrome, Safari and Opera, but not in Firefox.
I suspect that this has something to do with Adobe Flash. Am testing something now and will report back.
In the meantime, you might consider also putting a direct link to the full calendar on the page for people who are having trouble.

Well, I updated Flash and it still didn’t work, so then did a little Googling and it turns out that simply clearing the cookies from Firefox fixed it. It loaded immediately once that was done.
So you might also put a short statement on the page saying that if the calendar doesn’t load to clear cookies. I realize that this is not an elegant solution, and I’ll continue to look for additional information.

One other thought.
Google occasionally changes the code for these sorts of embeds to keep up with changes in standards, known issues with browsers, etc.
If this is an older bit of code, you might consider generating the most recent embed code from the calendar and updating it on the site.
