embedded links SET to show thumbnail and image

  It used to be that when I put a link up a snippet image of the linked page/site would automatically show up. It still does consistently if it’s a YT link but otherwise it seems a crap shoot. Sometimes it won’t show an image of a link to my own blog. Sometimes it does. Is there a setting I can choose that will CAUSE this to happen every time?
