Embedded Video
-
I recently just bought a new URL through WordPress via their “bundle” option for $99. I’m not a newb to blogging/WordPress, or for that matter, embedding video which is what I’m having an issue with. I’m trying to share something from Funny or Die, but no matter how I try (copy + pasting the URL, copy + pasting BOTH “old” and “new” embed codes) the video will NOT show up. This is so simple on Tumblr and other sites, and I have no idea why I’m having such a problem now. All I end up with is either a hyperlink or a bunch of code, neither of which I’m shooting for. Are other people having this same issue, and if so, how do I work my way around it so that I can embed video easily? I made my first post on the new site yesterday and embedded a vid from YouTube without any problems at all. The URL of the site is unltdedition.com
Thanks in advance for any help!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Yes, and VideoPress is included in the bundle I purchased.
Since when do embed codes not actually work? It doesn’t make any sense at all.

I don’t have the videopress upgrade. I haven’t experienced this problem with embedding videos I use a Firefox 9.0.1 and use the shortcodes and the videos embed every time. Will you please post an active link to your blog starting with http:// and I’ll flag this thread for Staff attention.

I’m using Chrome. Could that potentially be part of the issue?
I’ve never had this issue before either…as far as I’m concerned, an embed code’s an embed code and the only reason I’ve ever had them not work with certain Vimeo links where “user does not have permission.”
Thanks for the help!

Also embedded audio from Soundcloud yesterday without any issues!
Maybe Funny or Die doesn’t support embedding on their content on WordPress?

an embed code’s an embed code
Umm … think again. WordPress.com is a multiuser blogging platform and there are code restrictions here. http://en.support.wordpress.com/code/
If you cannot embed the Funny or Die video using vodpod then I suggest you try gigya shortcode. http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2010/07/03/gigya-shortcode-1-videos/

Yeah, you are 100% correct. Funny or Die is not one of their supported sites, and I thought it was because it had been listed as supported on another page within the forums.
Guess I’ll have to go the vodpod route.
Thanks, timethief, and apologies for my typos!

Best wishes with your site.
P.S. Never apologize to me for typos. I’m visually challenged and I make them all the time. -
Funny or Die has started posting content on YouTube as well, so search for the title of the video there and use the YouTube shortcode to put it on your site.

Good luck with VodPod. Let me know if you have any success with it.
I’m using Firefox 9.0 and have not been able to use it…yet…if the video uses iframes or script code they don’t want it anymore than WordPress does.
If you’re patient or smart or both (I’m neither), Panos’ gigya shortcode workaround is brilliant. I’ve was able to use it a couple of times.
Like RC said, sometimes you’ll find the same content on YouTube, but not always. Darn it.

The Videopress upgrade isn’t so you can embed videos from other sites here; it’s so you can upload videos directly to your blog. In order to do that with Funny or Die videos, you’d have to have permission and then download them to your computer and then upload them.
