Embedded Video Disappearing Act

    When attempting to embed a video from a site called Edutopia in a post, I find it completely disappears when I hit the publish button. A shorter version of the video from You Tube works fine. Here is the code I copied:

    <object width=”406″ height=”294″>
    <param value=”flvPath=http://www.edutopia.org/media/alaska_sel/alaska_sel.flv&pPath=http://www.edutopia.org/media/alaska_sel/alaska_sel.jpg” name=”FlashVars”/>
    <param value=”best” name=”quality”/>
    <param value=”false” name=”play”/>
    <param value=”http://www.edutopia.org/media/videofalse.swf” name=”movie”/>
    <embed id=”video_embed” width=”406″ height=”294″ type=”application/x-shockwave-flash” src=”http://www.edutopia.org/media/videofalse.swf” play=”false” pluginspage=”http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer” name=”video” quality=”best” flashvars=”flvPath=http://www.edutopia.org/media/alaska_sel/alaska_sel.flv&pPath=http://www.edutopia.org/media/alaska_sel/alaska_sel.jpg”/>
    </object>

    Any ideas?

    Also, we can give you guidance specific to your blog only when we have a link to your blog, starting with http. Otherwise we’re just guessing.

    The site address is:
    http://penfog.org
    You’ll see I have five or six embedded You Tube videos. As I read the video support page I shouldn’t be needing the upgrade for online videos…

    Thank you. You are incorrect about being able to embed that video; that video is not a supported type, so you will not be able to put it in your blog unless you use the Vodpod button. For security reasons, WP.com strips out most kinds of embed codes including Flash. If you go to http://vodpod.com and use their Vodpod button, you will be able to embed videos relatively easily from unsupported formats. This way preserves the security of WP.com.

    Thank you raincoaster, I’d never have guessed about vodpod in several million years.

    You’re welcome; it’s really handy. Sort of works like opening a window in your blog to their site, so it’s safe for WP.com. Their customer service is also very good.
