Embedded YouTube not playing well

  • Unknown's avatar

Whenever I embed a YouTube video on my blog, it loses a fair amount of video quality, and seems to play on almost a “stutter” (video only; audio plays fine). I have had numerous other people check for me, and it is the same for them.

Video plays just fine for me everywhere else on the internet, and YouTube videos did play just fine embedded on my blog until a few weeks ago. So how can embedded YouTube videos suddenly stop playing well on my blog, NO MATTER WHO is watching them? Quite strange.

Here is a link to a YouTube video I embedded on my blog (but this is the actual YouTube video on YouTube, so you can see how it looks nomrally):

Now, here is the same video embedded on my blog:

    Monday’s Song: Radiohead, “2+2=5”

I’m using a Dell PC running Windows 7. Thanks for any help you can offer!

  • I don’t see anything wrong at all with the video in the post that you linked to.

Can you test in a different browser?

Also, have you installed the latest version of the Flash plugin?

hmmm…perhaps I’m just having the wrong people double-check it for me! I’ll check it on a different brower, and not sure about the Flash plugin, will check in to that. Thanks!

I just tried viewing the video in the post with Firefox 3.6.13 and I can’t see anything wrong with it either.

Yeah, you’re right—it’s fine in Firefox!!! Strange. I have the latest Flash. Thanks for your help! As long as it looks fine to others, it’s fine with me.

  • Out of curiosity, which browser was it stuttering in, and were you able to reproduce it in the same browser on a different computer?

  • Unknown's avatar

It’s stuttering in Internet Explorer, and yes, it has happened in two different computers. (it still stutters in IE)

  • Does it appear to be related to a specific version of IE, like 6, 7, 8, or 9?

I just checked in IE 8 and didn’t notice any problems.

Where can I tell which version it is?

There should be a “Help” tab somewhere and when you click on that you should see something like “about” – click and should be there – note I don’t use IE so this is my best guess

It was precisely as you said. Mine is 8, as well. So bizarre…

  • If you have any add-ons, toolbars, etc, try deactivating them all and see if that makes a difference.

I also seem to be having this same problem, it started a few weeks ago. I have the latest flash, I have done the cookie dance. I use IE 8, the video’s seem to “stutter” as sethdellinger has said above, it’s like a bit of a time-lapse thing, very annoying. A friend has a totally different system to mine but uses IE 7 and the same thing is happening. I wonder if anyone can help with this problem. I’m really not concerned about what I see, but if friends are having a problem then I feel it is a bit of a worry, as most of my friends use IE 8 that is why I use it as well. Thank You for your time in advance.

  • Do the videos also stutter when viewed on YouTube.com?

  • Unknown's avatar

I have the exact same problem!

With IE 8 (on Windows 7 64-bit, IE 8 32bit, cpu usage under 5% and latest Flash player):

    – Videos played back on YouTube gives me full FPS with no stuttering.
    – Videos embedded on my blogg plays with only 10 FPS in IE8 (doesn’t matter what quallity).
    – Turning off Hardware acceleration for Flash gives me no difference.
    – In Firefox I get no problem – full 30 FPS on both Youtube and embedded.

You can see the FPS if you right click a video and use option “Show video info”.

This problem seems to have started just a few weeks ago.

Strange that it’s happening to others. I gave up an assumed it was just happening to me. I have downloaded Firefox and I log in with that when I want to see what the videos look like on my blog; they play fine through Firefox. If it’s happening with others perhaps it is a problem worth looking into.
