Embedding a PDF File not working after changing the theme
-
Hi to all:
I embedded a PDF file following the official instruccions from here:
https://wordpress.com/support/embedding-a-pdf-file/
But after applying a new theme, the PDF file appears as a link. I tried with several themes, also adding a new PDF file and it always shows as a PDF, and of course as Embed Block.
Taking a look to the HTML is seems to be fine
<figure class=”wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-embed-handler wp-block-embed-embed-handler”>

Hope anyone can help me!
Thanks

Hi @sfrip,
What I suggest here is using the file block instead: https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/blocks/file-block/
With the file block, the block setting also allow you to embed the PDF directly in a page or post. When you switch themes, the block should display the content as intended.
I hope that helps and please reach out again if you have any further questions.

Hi!
So nothing works! I’ve tried your suggestion, using the File Block. I see the embebed file in the visual editor, but not when publishing the page or post.
Also I tried with several different PDFs files. Also deleting all pages and creating a new one. Nothing- Finally, I switch to another browser (Edge) and the same, no embebed file. I feel really frustrated. It was working before changing the theme (I am using Libre 2)
So, I tried the 3 methods:
1- Inserting the URL from Media editor into a new line
2- Using the Embed Block
3- Using the File BlockAny another idea?
I really need this embed file, as I want to publish a shot novel using WP.
Thanks in advance!

Hi there,
So nothing works! I’ve tried your suggestion, using the File Block. I see the embebed file in the visual editor, but not when publishing the page or post.
You can see it in there currently? Please let us know the title of the page you have that on (you can also share the URL) so that we can see what you are seeing and take a closer look from there. If you no longer have that page available, you can also set up a sample page with a PDF in it so we can take a closer look, thanks!

Hi Jerrysarcastic!
The blog is not online yet. Right now I changed again the theme, I am using Shawburn theme, and still the same. There is a way to give you rights as a editor to edit a page and try it?
Also, I can share the screenshots:

https://postimg.cc/QBfr1nY4 (the preview whit just the blue link)Any help is really appreciated!
Thanks

Anyone designated as “Staff” here on the forums are WordPress.com Happiness Engineers and we can check your site’s backend without needing to provide individual access.
I tried to do the same on my test blog and I too just get the link to the file and not the embed, which makes me think there might be a bug with the embed, especially since the example on our support page on embedding a PDF is also not working.
I found an open issue regarding this and added your report to this issue. Hopefully we’ll have a resolution soon.

Thanks! Nice to know. I was getting crazy,
Let’s see, you will notify the solution to this bug?

Yes we’ll let you know as soon as we have more info. In the meantime you can use Scribd embeds… they have an independent method for embedding PDFs that you can use on your WordPress.com site: https://wordpress.com/support/scribd/
Thanks for your patience!
