Embedding An Audio File

  So, I’ve been trying to figure out why it is that a video file can be embedded and played from my blog (from a place like youtube, for example), but an audio file cannot (like a speech I uploaded to soundcloud.com)…

  What gives?

  Is this going to change soon?

  Or am I just stupid and can’t figure it out?

  And please don’t refer me to this link: http://support.wordpress.com/audio/ I’ve read all of that.

  Well first we will refer you to the sticky up top in the forum that says link to your blog when asking questions!

  What type of audio file did you upload? If it’s an mp3, and if Soundcloud provides direct URLs, it can be embedded in your blog just like a youtube video can: by using the WP shortcode. If Soundcloud won’t give direct URLs, that a problem with Soundcloud, not WP.

  Soundcloud doesn’t provide direct URLs – actually, a great question is whether you are aware of sites that do provide direct urls.

  Regardless, though, the soundcloud embedding works, by way of example, on Blogger – I had an old site that I check it on and it worked fine. I’m asking why facebook videos can be embedded using the facebook player, but in order for an audio file to be played, it has to go through wordpress’s player using the [audio]? Why not just allow for embedding of Soundcloud’s player?

  Its just annoying, but if you can direct me to a site that will provide direct links to uploaded files, and that is free, then that would be helpful.

  I suppose it’s because WP cannot go about checking the trustworthiness of every possible site.

  You can upload your mp3s in Fileden or Getdropbox.

  Right. It makes sense that they wouldn’t want to go through the trouble of checking every possible site, but choosing one to go with for audio hosting would make sense just like they’ve chosen Youtube to for video hosting where the player can be embedded and played directly through wordpress.

  I’ll check out fileden and getdropbox…
