embedding audio
-
Hello,
I have a free plan. When I go to add blocks (using the block editor) some of them say paid in parentheses after the name of the block and others do not. The audio block and soundcloud block do not say paid. Is there any way to add a short (few second) audio clip to my website with a free plan? I have tried uploading a file directly to my media library – and get file format not allowed (I tried .mp3 and .m4a which are both listed on the list of acceptable file formats). I also tried uploading the file to Soundcloud and then putting a url to the file on soundcloud. I got didn’t work try again or only include a link to soundcloud as options. I also tried deleting the ‘s’ in https in the URL and this didn’t work either – same message about embedding failed.
Thanks,
Rachel -
Hi Rachel, you won’t be able to upload media directly to our servers without a paid plan. But if you can send a link to your soundcloud and a link to the post or page you’re working on, we can likely help you sort this out.

Ok, thanks! I uploaded the audio file here:
and I would like to put a little button near my name pronunciation (towards the bottom) on this page of my wordpress site that plays the above audio clip when you click on it.
I know how to just put a link that would take you to the soundcloud website directly, but I don’t want to do that here/in this case.
Thanks!

You’ll be able to embed that following the steps at https://wordpress.com/support/soundcloud-audio-player/

Thanks for the reply! Those are the exact steps I followed originally, when I got the error. I just tried them again and got the same error. When I paste the link from soundcloud into the url part of the soundcloud block on my site, I get the message – “sorry, this content could not be embedded” – with the options to try again or convert to link. When I click try again I just get the same behavior/message. (And convert to link is not what I want – it just pastes a link to click to take you to the soundcloud url directly). Thoughts? (I am using the block editor, I am not sure which version). Thanks! (is there a way to easily share screenshots here? I took screenshots of the error but didn’t see a way to share them here.)

Yes, that is what I did. I followed the directions above exactly. I inserted a soundcloud block by clicking on the icon shown in your above screenshot, then I copied the link that comes up in soundcloud when I click the share button associated with the audio clip I want to embed, then I pasted that URL into the soundcloud block window on my webpage where it says enter URL to embed here. Then I clicked the blue embed button (within the soundcloud block), and I just get a message that says it couldn’t be embedded. Could you send me a random soundcloud link that you know works so that I could try that as a test? Thanks in advance for other help/ideas.

(in my previous reply I was saying I am using the block editor mode, not the classic editor. but I was speaking specifically about the soundcloud embed block for all of the actions that I took/tried.)

I found and copied wordpress html code from the “embed” tab that comes up after clicking share in soundcloud. When I added that as a block to my wordpress I was able to embed the audio clip as I wanted. The soundcloud embed block on wordpress was still not working for me and giving a cannot embed error, even when I used the URL addresses in the html code embed code from soundcloud. Not sure why the soundcloud embed block keeps throwing errors. But for now pasting the html code provided by soundcloud into wordpress worked for me.

When you enter the URL into the Soundcloud block, it’s just the URL of the page on Soundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/rachel-toczydlowski/nameaudio
So, if you add that: https://d.pr/i/mQFoEP
It works: https://d.pr/i/jBKb8y

Yes, my screen looks exactly like the last screenshot above when I have tried to do this, but when I click the blue “embed” button I get a message that the content could not be embedded. I was able to do what I want using html code instead of the soundcloud embed block, so I am set for now. I do not know why the soundcloud embed block keeps giving me an error and will not allow me to embed the content that way. Thanks for your help.

Hm, if it ever happens again, please let us know, something might be wrong in the specific post or page it’s being embedded into.
