Embedding content from Facebook

    Hello there,
I am trying to embed a wonderful poem from my FB page onto my ketchupmoms.com home page. I tried to insert a text widget and then copied/ pasted the embed code that FB provides for all public posts but it didn’t work. For some reason the embed code started to show up on my home page rather than the content of the post. Can you help, please? I have very minimal tech skills and so am figuring this out as I go along.
    Thanks!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Still doesn’t work. I am trying to embed a facebook post in a text widget on the homepage of ketchupmoms.com. As per the instructions I need to paste the shortcode and then make sure the link is directing to the facebook url of the post itself. But in a text widget there is no place to put a link. I tried just putting both the shortcode and the post url on separate lines but that doesn’t work either. Can you help? I have very limited techie sills and am just learning as I go along here.
    Thanks very much.

There is no way to embed a FB post into a text widget. You can embed it in a post, but not in a widget. Just copy paste the poem and create a manual link to the FB page.

    Hi there,

You can use the Facebook embed shortcode to embed a post in a text widget, by pasting the shortcode into the widget like this:

    [facebook url="https://www.facebook.com/WordPresscom/posts/10151875732603980"]

If you run into trouble with that, please let me know! You can leave the widget with the embed you tried to create on your site, and I can take a closer look at it to figure out what’s going wrong. :)

    Hi Rachel,
It doesn’t seem to work. I pasted the embed code into the text widget exactly as given in the post itself but when I push it to live it shows up with the source code instead of the post. What am I doing wrong? I don’t want to leave it on the website for your review because it looks like gibberish to the viewers.

    here’s the steps I followed:
    – Insert text widget into Footer 2 (where I would like it to go)
    – Copy embed code into the space available. Here’s the embed code for the post:
    <div id=”fb-root”></div> <script>(function(d, s, id) { var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0]; if (d.getElementById(id)) return; js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id; js.src = “//connect.facebook.net/en_US/all.js#xfbml=1”; fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs); }(document, ‘script’, ‘facebook-jssdk’));</script>
    <div class=”fb-post” data-href=”https://www.facebook.com/Ketchupmoms/posts/841286132611049″ data-width=”466″><div class=”fb-xfbml-parse-ignore”>Post by Harmeet Sachdev.</div></div>

What am I doing wrong? Please help!
    Thanks a lot

    Hi there,

Instead of using that embed code from Facebook, you’ll need to use the WordPress.com-specific Facebook embed shortcode. You can find full instructions for creating that shortcode here:

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/facebook-integration/facebook-embeds/#embedding-with-a-shortcode

For example, for the post you’re trying to embed at https://www.facebook.com/Ketchupmoms/posts/841286132611049 you can use this shortcode:

    [facebook url="https://www.facebook.com/Ketchupmoms/posts/841286132611049"]

You can paste that code directly into a text widget to make the embedded post appear in your site’s footer. Please let me know if you have any questions about that. :)

It still doesn’t work. The code and link shows up instead of the content of the post. I took a snapshot and can email it to you.

    Hi there,

Sure, a snapshot would really help! You can either upload it directly to your site’s media library (under Media > Add New in the site’s dashboard), or you can email us with the image as an attachment. Just let me know once you’ve done that and I can take a closer look for you.
