embedding disabled by request- watch on youtube
-
The facts are:
I’m using the latest version of WP as of 9-26-11.
I’m using the theme “Black-LetterHead by Ulysses Ronquillo”
I have a Youtube account from which I’ve embedded a video of my own.
The video is classed as an “unlisted” video. This should allow it to be embeddable.
On my blog, sometimes the video is viewable on my laptop, some times I get “embedding disabled by request- watch on youtube”. It’s not viewable from any other computer I’ve had friends link from.
I’m a WP noob and it’s possible I screwed the pooch in my account set up. The fact that I can sometimes view it has got me mystified.
Counsel would be appreciated.
Cheers! The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

That’s a YouTube setting, set by the person who uploaded it. You can’t change it. There’s nothing you can do but look for a different version of the video with different settings and embedding enabled.
-
That’s what’s odd…I made the vid and uploaded it to my own account.
I’ve changed nothing concerning the embed status, but when I checked from my lap top 2 minutes ago, it was viewable. -
This the Youtuve page with your video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jDF3etTA0lY
If you click Share>Embed, it says “Embedding disabled by request”.“The video is classed as an “unlisted” video. This should allow it to be embeddable.”
What makes you think so? Unlisted means you can view it only if you click on a link to the video page or if you paste its URL into your address browser and hit return. From http://www.google.com/support/youtube/bin/answer.py?answer=181547 :
How do I share an unlisted video?
Once you’ve set your video as unlisted in your Account settings, you’re ready to share your video. In order to share your video, just send the video’s URL to the people with whom you’d like to have access to the video. They’ll then be able to view the video.Doesn’t include embedding. For a video to be embeddable, it must be public, not unlisted.

Unless things have changed since then, I have seen unlisted videos being embedded on websites before, usually by companies that want to merely use YouTube as a video platform for their corporate videos, but not share them with the rest of the YouTube community.
Nevertheless, raincoaster and panos are right: it’s got to be a setting on your video and unless you change that setting, you won’t be able to embed the video.

@Panos: I tried on my test WP.com blog with one of my own YouTube videos and yes, you can embed an unlisted YouTube video. as long as you select “Yes, external sites may embed and play this video” under Embedding.
@meloncarvings: This shows it. The problem is due to the settings you selected on YouTube.

Thank you all for your input!
It appears my error was not selecting the embedding permissions on my Youtube site.
I feel we’ve bonded….group hug! -
@Ah, thanks Sergio!
@meloncarvings: Sorry for misleading you. I don’t have any Youtube videos of my own to test like Sergio did, so I was misled myself by the Youtube FAQ.
