Embedding Google Calender

  • Unknown's avatar

I want to embed a google calender into my wordpress.com blog. I understand that the way to do it is via the method shown in

    Embed a Google Calendar

    but when paste the code

    <iframe src=”https://calendar.google.com/calendar/embed?height=600&wkst=1&bgcolor=#FFFFFF&src=(email visible only to moderators and staff)&color=#182C57&ctz=America/Denver”/calendar/embed?height=600&wkst=1&bgcolor=#FFFFFF&src=(email visible only to moderators and staff)&color=#182C57&ctz=America/Denver” style=”border-width:0″ width=”800″ height=”600″ frameborder=”0″ scrolling=”no”>
into the text panel, the embed code doesn’t appear, it just strips out the iframe tags and leaves a link.

Does anyone else have the same problem? If they can get it to work, can someone tell me the right way to go about this? Having a wordpress.com blog means I can’t use a plugin.

    Thanks

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Other users encountered this problem last month and Staff advised that a fix was rolled out, so I’ve tagged this for their attention.

Thanks for this jennifer. Nice to know it wasn’t just me…:)

Will I be told of the fix through this forum when it is available?

  • Hi @roissyadmin, I think the trouble is in the generated code. It seems to have some parameters we don’t expect, and one Google doesn’t even expect (if you click the link it generates, you’ll see what I mean.)

Can you let us know what method you’re using to generate this code?

  • Unknown's avatar

We are trying to use using the method detailed in

    Embed a Google Calendar

that said what that suggests isn’t what we are seeing which is

    https://gyazo.com/040d9ae076f8cc54b31e2aa367bd0975

but we do have Share checked and end up with the page

    https://gyazo.com/6822c6fcfcf550316873c2ab89d745fc

    and the code

    <iframe src=”https://calendar.google.com/calendar/embed?src=(email visible only to moderators and staff)&ctz=America/Denver”/calendar/embed?src=(email visible only to moderators and staff)&ctz=America/Denver” style=”border: 0″ width=”800″ height=”600″ frameborder=”0″ scrolling=”no”></iframe>

    Any ideas?

  • Thanks @roissyadmin, we’re troubleshooting this. Are you using any of the customization settings in the calendar embed box?

If so can you try using the code it generates without any customizations?

  • Unknown's avatar

There isn’t an option to apply or save customisations.

There is a link that says “Customize the color, size, and other options”
but that takes you to another page.

    So, no.

  • Okay, I’m not sure why your generated code isn’t working, but I did test a bit and found a shortcode that would work.

    Try this:

    [googleapps domain="www" dir="calendar/embed" query="(email visible only to moderators and staff)&color=#182C57&ctz=America/Denver"/calendar/embed?height=600&wkst=1&bgcolor=#FFFFFF&src=(email visible only to moderators and staff)&color=#182C57&ctz=America/Denver" width="800" height="600" /]

That worked on my test site, so let me know if that does the trick. Cheers!

    Hi Velda

    Sadly it didn’t work.

When I pasted your code in and updated I just got ..

    &color=#182C57&ctz=America/Denver”/calendar/embed?height=600&wkst=1&bgcolor=#FFFFFF&src=[email redacted]&color=#182C57&ctz=America/Denver” width=”800″ height=”600″ /]

I really have no idea why it’s not working. Could there possibly be some switch that means HTML doesn’t paste properly?

  • Did you paste everything there including the brackets? If you’ll let me know what post you’re trying to paste into, I can try to edit it for you.

You can also try pasting using the HTML mode.

    Hi Velda

hmmm…I pasted the code into a text editor first (I use a Macbook) and then pasted it into the page.

That worked (hooray!) I now have a calender.

Unfortunately the bad news is that there are no events showing. We have five recurring events a week and am getting nothing. This just looks as though it is a default.

Sorry to be a pain about all this but any idea why we aren’t gettng our events?

Thanks again for your help with this.

  • OK, I’m looking at the original calendar again and I’m getting “Events from one or more calendars could not be shown here because you do not have the permission to view them.”

Are you sure the events are public?

  • Unknown's avatar

There is a checkbox marked Make this Calender public which is checked.

Is there anything else that we are missing?

  • Check on an individual event to make sure it isn’t private. If you view this link in a logged-out tab or incognito window, you should be able to see the events; if you don’t, they won’t appear on the site.

  • Unknown's avatar

the link you have given has been redacted..is it possible to resend please?

  • Unknown's avatar

@roissyadmin – This happens when the link includes an email address. The forum software redacts it so it isn’t picked up by spambots.

  • Actually that’s based off the link you gave us. Can you send a new link?

  • Unknown's avatar

    you mean

    <iframe src=”https://calendar.google.com/calendar/embed?src=(email visible only to moderators and staff)&ctz=America/Denver”/calendar/embed?src=(email visible only to moderators and staff)&ctz=America/Denver” style=”border: 0″ width=”800″ height=”600″ frameborder=”0″ scrolling=”no”></iframe>

    ??

A couple of things make this all even stranger. My colleague has set up a separate test site at

    https://kelyren.wordpress.com/ref-calendar/

and that works with this code. Why would

    https://roissyenfrance.wordpress.com/

    be different?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi,

The Calendar is now working. I gave my colleague access to the site and she posted the calendar code with no problem. So I can only assume that it was something about my set up that was the issue. I use a Macbook Pro so perhaps there is something about Macs that introduces a weirdness into the cut and paste.

Anyway thanks Velda a hundred times for all your help and patience.

Sorry we didn’t actually get to the bottom of the problem but at least we now have our calendar.

  • I’m glad she sorted it out. I use a mac too so I’ve just copied and pasted the code, as she has it on her site, into one of my tests sites. I’m using Chrome on Mac too, so I tested in each of these settings:

    – Calypso (new blue editor) Visual Tab
    – Calypso HTML Tab
    – WP-Admin Visual Tab
    – WP-Admin Text Tab

It worked in all of these cases, for what it’s worth. But that was with pasting her code.

The code you linked here still shows just a link, though this time I can at least see events on that link. You might find out where she’s getting her embed code and whether she’s doing anything differently. Cheers!
