embedding Google code on a Cloud hosted blog in the menu section

I want to have Google + appear in my header alongside my facebook and twitter, and to have the Google + option to place code in the Menu section.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I checked https://discussiondigitalmarketing.wordpress.com/ and I see that you are using the Mystique theme, and you are correct that the theme doesn’t have an option for Google+.

Because the theme author never built in a Google+ option, there currently isn’t a way for you to add one. There is one possible workaround I can think of, but it’s a long shot! To add Google+ to the header area in the Mystique theme, you could use the “YouTube” URL field on the “Theme Options” page and then manually adjust the icon using custom CSS. However, that is not a simple task and would require the use of the custom CSS editor which is included in the WordPress.com Premium Plan which costs a yearly fee. If that’s something that sounds interesting to you, let me know and I can help you with the CSS part.

I also put in a request to the theme team for you to see if this is something they would be willing to update in the Theme Options so it’s a built in option, however, since it’s an older theme and there aren’t a high number of request for such an option, they may decide not to add it in favor of working on newer themes.

Another possible workaround would be to switch to a theme that has support for a social links menu. A lot of newer themes have it. Some examples are: Minnow, Twenty Fifteen, Intergalactic, Illustratr, and Ubud. See https://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/social-links-menu/ to learn more.

    Hi Design Simply Staff,
Thank you so much for your extremely helpful info this morning on my issue with embedding a Google + Icon. You of course were correct when you said that the Mystique Theme did not support the G+ Icon, and your step by step instructions in getting a new Logo and writing the code for it to appear in my sidebar was scary at first bit I am so on top of the world now that I actually got it to work and first time. Had already put the URL for G+ into the Tumbler spot as you suggested and a friend is looking at trying to change the logo to a Google + one. Many thanks again.
