Embedding iframes to Office Web Apps

Is embedding Office Web Apps links supported? I would like to use the “Create URL” facility provided by Microsoft (http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/web-apps/view-office-documents-online-FX102727753.aspx?redir=0) to embed a PowerPoint file in a WordPress Post – the file itself is stored in my WordPress media library. The link works fine, but when I insert the iframe code into the Text Editor and Update, the iframe is stripped away. The docs say that Web Apps are support via SkyDrive, and I suspect that the iframe URI is slightly different when linking outside of SkyDrive, so WP.com is stripping it as an unknown/unsupported iframe reference. Would it be possible to add this iframe support as it is just a variation of the Web Apps support you already have? Thanks!

  • Hi there – As you mention, we support embeds with Microsoft Skydrive PowerPoint:

You can also embed PDFs using Scribd: http://en.support.wordpress.com/scribd/

I’m not familiar with the Office Web Apps – I tested it out at the link you provided, it doesn’t give me an embed code with iframe, it just gives me a link. Where did you get the code?

With the “Create URL” page above, you can point PowerPoint Web App to any accessible PowerPoint file on the web… then, click on the link and your PowerPoint file will open with the WebApp (no need to be using SkyDrive). Then… go to File | Share | Embed in the Web App and it gives you the iframe code to use. It seems to work well, pretty much just like the SkyDrive version – but the src URI is a little different.

  • Hi there – Ok, thanks for clarifying. I will add your suggestion to our list of ideas for possible future updates. :)

  • Hi there – good news, this should work for you now! Give it a try and let me know. :)

Perfect! Thanks for the quick response! I added the iframe tags to my post and all is well… makes for a much richer way to share documents than just an old link.
