Embedding Media Issue

  • Unknown's avatar

I’ve placed videos on my site many times before, but the uploader provided no longer shows a button to insert into the post. I followed the directions given by WordPress for embedding by simply including the link on a line by itself with no hyperlink, and it does nothing more than show the web address in the post.

    Thank you

  • What video service are you using to upload the videos?

I can’t remember which one I was using, but I tried youtube just to see if that’s what it was.

If I could post a picture, I would. When I click the “Add Media” button that I’ve used on all other videos, it’s giving me room to type the URL and the title, but there’s nothing else–no button to click to insert it into my post. It’s becoming frustrating.

  • Embedding a video is actually pretty simple, but it’s not done via the Add Media button.

Please review the appropriate guide for the specific service you’re trying to use: http://en.support.wordpress.com/videos/

Thanks macmanx Maybe I worded it incorrectly, but I’me used videos in my posts via Add Media button many many times before with no problem. I dont’ want to upgrade to anything since I know I’m capable of doing it with the button they’ve already provided me with for free (although it’s not working today).

  • We actually no longer allow embedding videos from third-party services via the Add Media button. This was changed quite a few months ago.

You can embed videos from several third-party services (like YouTube) for free following the guides linked to at http://en.support.wordpress.com/videos/

Thank you macmanx. It still doesn’t make much sense because I just placed a youtube video on a post 2-3 weeks ago using the Add Media Button. The button is still on my site, so that’s strange too. I went to the support link you added, but it sounds like the only way to have a video on my post is by paying for an upgrade? Is that correct? If not, I’m still unsure how else to get it to work. Thanks for your help. Technology is usually a breeze for me, but this has me stumped because nothing I’ve read from the support pages have worked. Thanks again!

  • VideoPress is a WordPress upgrade allows you to upload videos from your computer for hosting and playback directly within your blog. The Add Media button is still visible in your dashboard because it can be used for other things like photos and audio.

You can embed YouTube videos on your blog for free.

Let’s walkthrough the steps just to make sure we have all the bases covered.

You said that you did this before, but let’s try it again just to make sure:

If that doesn’t work, can we see the video link you are trying to embed?

Maybe I need to clarify. Sorry to be so confusing. The Add Media button is there AND the tab for adding a video via URL is there AND it allows me to type in the URL and title, but the button underneath that says “Insert into Post” or whatever it says, isn’t there.

Yesterday I did everything you wrote above, and it didn’t work. The only thing I didn’t do was have the video playing while I copied the link. I did have the video playing while I copied the link this time, and I wouldn’t think that would matter, but it DID work this time! Thank you.

  • Wow, interesting! I am glad it worked out.

UGH I’m trying to add a youtube video today, and again it’s not working. Why couldn’t they just keep the media tab up because I never once had problems with that?

I’m adding this link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rqbXX1t16LQ and it keeps it as a link on my post rather than the video. This is so frustrating because it’s taking me so long just to add a post to my site. Thank you to anyone who can help.

I have followed all the directions doing exactly what I did before, and I’ve deleted and re-typed it so many times, but nothing is working. I’ve even tried the short link. Thanks in advance.

UPDATE: I used the embed code, and it worked. This is craziness. Hopefully they fix whatever glitches are going on soon because I’ve never had this much trouble.

  • Some browsers turn the URL into a link when you paste it. Unfortunately, having it as a link breaks the simple embed.

If you ever see the video URL turn into a link when you paste it into the editor, just highlight it and click the toolbar button that look like a broken chain, right next to the link button.

This will break the link, and the embed will work as normal when the post is published.
