Embedding moving images, removing obsolete followers

  • Unknown's avatar

Hello WordPress. I wanted to ask you about how to embed continuously moving images. This image has counting numbers. I have tried the Embed URL feature on the edit page, but it just showed a link on preview. Can it not be done on a free account? I did look at https://wordpress.org/support/article/embeds/ but it didn’t seem to help.

Also I wanted to ask you what it means when some of your followers are grayed out when on the stats page you click the tiny followers number at the top right and you see on the next page a list of all your followers. Yet a few are grayed. Does that mean their websites are no longer viable? Can we delete them from our list of followers then?

    Thank you

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi,

I wanted to ask you about how to embed continuously moving images.

Can you clarify, do you mean like an animated gif?

followers are grayed out when on the stats

Again to clarify, do you mean that they do not have a photo avatar next to their name in the list?

Thank you for the reply, ozmodiar. Here’s what I want to imbed in a post. Just the first section,

    https://www.census.gov/popclock/embed.php?component=counter

    from

    https://www.census.gov/popclock/

I’d like the post to start out with that image.

About the greying out of some followers, I mean when you click on followers below where it ways “Stats and Insights” and next to the word “Followers” there’s a little oval with the number of followers you have. When you click on that number it lists the followers, but while some of them have actively working links in blue so that you can go to their site, others are dead links in black. I clicked on some of them and it showed the site no longer existed or something else.

  • Hi there,

Thank you for the reply, ozmodiar. Here’s what I want to imbed in a post. Just the first section,

To clarify, the widget shown on census.gov is something that can be embedded in self-hosted websites, which are sites that you create on a “traditional web host” like Bluehost, GoDaddy, etc.

The embed is not made to work on WordPress.com sites as-is though because it uses iframe code that we do not permit on our service. You can use that embed if you upgrade to our Business Plan, however: https://wordpress.com/plans/

    This one is actually preferable,

    https://www.worldometers.info/world-population/

I do not see that worldometers.info has made that available as an embeddable widget as I see that census.gov has. From what I can see the stats on that page is their exclusive work product. There is not a way to convert it into something that is embeddable, that is something they need to make available on their end.

About the greying out of some followers […] some of them have actively working links in blue so that you can go to their site, others are dead links in black. I clicked on some of them and it showed the site no longer existed or something else. Does that mean their websites are no longer viable? Can we delete them from our list of followers then?

You mean the followers you see here? https://wordpress.com/people/followers/midmiocene.wordpress.com

To clarify, if the person following you has not set a site in their profile (or they have set it to “private”) then their name is not linked to their site. Your username in that list is also greyed out, in this case because it’s you, and you are already on the site so there is no link to go to the site you are already on.

You can delete them (or any follower) if you wish, but this does not indicate that there is anything amiss with the follow, they just want to follow and stay up to date on your site and don’t have a site of their own that they want to share.

Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.

Ok, Thanks very much for getting back to me on it totoro. I didn’t know that. I don’t want to go to .org because I’m positive I’ll mess it the transition (even with wordpress help) somehow and it’ll end up being a whole lot of trouble. I’m not too tech minded. :/ Besides, then I’d have another nagging worry to keep track of (the payment). Then there’s the payment itself. But I know that I am approaching the end of the road with GBs on this site.

About the followers. Oops. I already deleted a few of them. But the first one was, I think, from a webhosting company that said something like the domain name was for sale or other. So I assumed that that was true of the other blacked out ones too. I did see my own site blacked out though, but thought it was for reasons similar to what you said. But I also deleted one that I wanted to delete.
