embedding P2 in a wordpress.com blog possibility
-
At my stie: http://fleamarketgardening.com/ hosted here at wordpress.com, I want to add a discussion forum so we can have a swap meet. I like how P2 is set up for this type of conversation so authors can post photos. I’m sure I’ll have to purchase unlimited authors.
In order to have a forum at fleamarketgardening.com, I was hoping to embed the P2 forum into the fleamarketgardening blog. Does anyone know if it is possible. I have made the P2 blog active yet. I am aware I could just link to it–but I want folks to go through fleamarketgardening.com and not go directly to the P2 blog.
Or if someone knows of a forum I could embed—let me know. I didn’t see one that would work with wordpress.com
Thanks annaThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

No it’s not possible to embed P2. It’s an independent theme. What you can do in your fleamarketgardening.com is create a custom menu and include a custom link in it to the P2 theme blog. Then when visitors click the atb in the custom menu they will enter that P2 blog instantly.
You create a custom menu. http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/ and include a custom link to the P2 theme blog in it. If you wish you can also include pages and sub-pages of your own choice and categories and sub-categories in your custom menu as well.
No it’s not possible to embed a forum but there are free forums on the internet and you can get one and link to it from your blog in the same way as I have described above.
Note that in order to have a vibrant forum you will need a critical mass of eager beavers who will post frequently. Without those “regulars” your forum will fail to thrive. Most bloggers I have know who started forums found they underestimated how many participants were actually needed to create a vibrant forum.

Thank you timethief. I figured I’d have to link in some way. I did read another help topic similar to what you are saying.
I think there is enough traffic for this forum and I’ve decided to use P2. I’m getting around 1,200 hits a day to the flowergardengirl site, 400-1,000 to fleamarketgardening and then I have a large following on facebook. It will take some work but then I’m not afraid to fail–all you can do is try.
Thanks for you help, Anna

Hi Anna,
Custom menus work so well and I’m glad I could help you. It does sound like you do have enough folks to make a go of this. Very best wishes for success. :) -
I would definitely recommend using a forum-specific website for that, rather than just the P2 theme. The more users you have, the more you are going to need the robustness of unique forum software.
