I can’t seem to embed a podcast of mine onto my wordpress.com site and it only shows the coded link instead. Is it possible to embed audio onto wordpress.com? Mine is a free standard .com site.

Are you using the shortcode?
Please take a look at this support doc and scroll down to Embed Audio from a Link for instructions.
https://en.support.wordpress.com/audio/On the free plan you’ll need to upload the file to a third-party server, and use the instructions in that section. Have you tried that already?
If you upgrade to Premium or Business, you may upload directly to your WordPress.com site.

I don’t know what shortcode is. I’ve been trying to copy and paste the embed code from a podcast on another website to a post on my site. It only shows the code as a link rather than the podcast player. I’ve followed instructions from Youtube videos but no joy. I’ve currently just got a link to the webpage of the site with the podcast that i’m interviewed in.

try this:
update the page and view it. It worked for me, assuming that is the right episode. :)
Modify your podcast episode links as needed.

Basically, instead of the embed code, you want to use the short code of
[audio link_here]
Not sure that copied everything needed.Replace link_here with your podcast link (to the actual file of the recording).
