Embedding powerpoint
-
Despite following instructions on both the wordpress site and the microsoft office site, I can’t embed a powerpoint presentation on my wordpress site. I uploaded the ppt file to one drive, got the embed code with the share function and pasted it as html on my page. Am I missing something?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there, I just want to double check that these are the instructions you are following: https://en.support.wordpress.com/powerpoint-web-app/
If it is, please share here between backticks or CODE tags the embed code you received. Thanks.
-
Also, please let us know which Editor you are using to embed the shortcode (Classic, new Block Editor, WP Admin, etc.)
-
Thanks for responding.
Yes, those are the instructions I’m following.
Here’s the code generated from the embed function of the ppt

Last try…
<iframe src="https://liveconcordia-my.sharepoint.com/personal/e_sulli_live_concordia_ca/_layouts/15/Doc.aspx?sourcedoc={aa3a510a-0c6f-495d-ab5f-fc05950c9db2}&action=embedview&wdAr=1.7777777777777777" width="350px" height="221px" frameborder="0">This is an embedded <a target="_blank" href="https://office.com">Microsoft Office</a> presentation, powered by <a target="_blank" href="https://office.com/webapps">Office Online</a>.</iframe>
-
Hi first of all sorry for the issue with the CODE tags.
Besides the issue of using the new block editor, which may in itself be an issue, it doesn’t look like you are using the regular OneDrive embed link, but from sharepoint.com
Here’s a sample PPT from my Public OneDrive folder, which you can try to embed to see if it works correctly:
[office src="https://onedrive.live.com/embed?cid=2FA18AB6EE96EE0D&resid=2FA18AB6EE96EE0D%21175&authkey=ANNVhvBBr_JJRMk&em=2" width="402" height="327"] -
Oh, very witty. :p The iframe code was automatically changed to the shortcode here in the forum even though it was enclosed in backticks.
I’ve flagged this thread for Staff attention and input.

Hi Folks –
justjennifer, thanks for all your help here!
erikasullivan, please give the embed code that justjennifer shared a try. Try it in Gutenberg and in classic editor. To switch back and forth, use the
...in the upper right hand corner of the editing screen. A menu will open, at the bottom of that menu you’ll seeswitch to classic editor. That’s how you’ll go back and forth.I am also going to give it a go on my side and see if I can get it to work properly.

Ok, so the embed code that was shared is working for me.
– In the classic editor: https://cloudup.com/caaJohL-pqD
– In Gutenberg: https://cloudup.com/cGWCGB1Pxw7 converts when published or previewed https://cloudup.com/cbzs1tAEh9p -
Hi staff-zinnia welcome always! Two things:
First the embed code that @erikasullivan shared in her example doesn’t seem to be a standard onedrive embed. Is that the code you successfully embedded?*
Second the changing of the iframe I shared to a shortcode in my reply even though it was wrapped in backticks. Will make troubleshooting such things more difficult.
Thanks in advance.

Thanks for your help.
justjennifer, I can successfully embed your project with your code while in classic editor. I tried replacing the url with the url from my embed but no luck.
I guess the problem is that I’m using One Drive being routed through sharepoint? I don’t 100% understand, but it’s the set up my university provides.

Hello again

That’s my educated guess. OneDrive itself is an approved embed source but sharepoint is not. Can you upload your ppt to a free onedrive account?

Re:

If you both wouldn’t mind sharing your code via pastebin.com or a similar service, that would be helpful.
@erikasullivan, I noticed too your sharepoint URL has “liveconcordia-my” in it and our software is not built to recognize that URL. Is there any chance you could use a onedrive URL instead? -
Yes, it looks like I will have to look into a “real” one drive account. I can report back.
Thanks again.
-
Thanks @supernovia. Will keep a link to pastebin.com handy. :)
@erikasullivan – let us know if you need any further help with this.
