Embedding Video from TheNewsRoom.com

    There’s this new site that has thousands of fully licensed news videos and stories that are free to use: http://www.thenewsroom.com/categories. Unfortunately, they’re not on the list of sites that WordPress will let us embed from. I just emailed support asking that they consider adding this site to video sites that they’ll allow and I thought that I might as well post here while I was at it. So if you check out the site and think it’s somewhere you’d like to use videos from, maybe you could email support too. Thanks!

    That’s the way to make a suggestion around here. :)

    The only thing I don’t see on that site is if they allow other sites to embed videos elsewhere. Do you see it anywhere? If they don’t allow offsite embeding, it’s kind of moot then.

    They do allow offsite embedding, only they call it “mashing” but it’s the same thing. I’ve already mashed their videos on three of my Blogger blogs. I emailed one of the guys at the Newsroom and they said they had talked to WordPress, but were told that they needed enough WordPress users asking for it before they would add it.

    Thanks. A quick look at the outputting code shows a lot of ‘garbage’ and what appears to be random numbers that would have to be worked through to make it work. Normally they code works with putting in something like this:

    [video=123456789]

    I count no less than 6 variables in their code. I have a feeling that if the developers were to contact thenewsroom, they being tnr would have to simplfy that quite a bit. (All at least be able to provide workarounds)

    Or else we wind up with

    [video=123456&id=654321&w=859674&h=457812&pp=973164] or something simular

    The being paid to display those videos is out though. I just noticed that. I doubt staff would allow that as is’t against teh ToS to monetize out blogs here.

    You don’t actually get paid for posting the videos. If you get loads of clicks on it, then you will get some nominal amount of money but no more than if you link to a book on Amazon and use your affiliate number. I’ve never actually made a dime from Amazon, but I still use that affiliate link. I see these videos the same way. I want to actually post the video; it’s not about the remote possibly of maybe making a few pennies from it somewhere way down the road.

    And Amazon affiliate programs are also banned here, regardless of how lucrative or not they are. If they removed the affiliate kickbacks, it would render this a possibility: as is, not likely to say the least.

    Ummm … the FAQs says:

    One discreet link to Amazon per blog is okay, but if the primary purpose of the blog is to drive traffic to affiliate programs that’s not allowed. If you’re not sure, contact support.

    FAQ

    Oh god, that’s not congruent with what I was reading. Does anyone edit the FAQ for consistency?

    It’s been updated recently.
