Embedding videos
-
I keep getting a yellow box with an “f” in the middle of it when I try to use codes of videos I want to post on my blog. Why does it do that?
-
What videos are you trying to post? Have you looked at the FAQ? http://faq.wordpress.com/?s=video
-
One was a blip.tv video…I got the code to embed in into the post and all that came up was the yellow box with the small “f” in the middle of it. Next I tried to do a YouTube video with the same results. I finally just linked to it but I’d like to be able to embed them into the post.
-
Did the yellow box come up in the just the editor or in the actual post as well? Do you have an example post?
-
The box came up in the editor box but when I hit “publish” there was nothing in the post when I checked out it..just blank space.
I don’t have the post now but give me a few minutes and I’ll redo another one so you can see what I’m talking about.

You often have to wait a few moment for the video to appear, I’ve noticed, especially when the video site has high traffic. Also, you are embedding using what method? The Embed icon? just pasting the code? How?
-

We don’t support blip.tv videos. You would need to use Vodpod to post that video.

I never embedded videos until I paid for the WordPress memory upgrade, I mention this just in case it is related to the way you are trying to embed.
Cause the upgrade allows for more options in embedding. -
I’ve been having the same problem today embedding YouTube videos. I’ve done this many, many times before without any trouble. Is there an issue, perhaps?
-
They have tinkered with the embedding process…but with YouTube, fall back on the old [youtube=URL] code. That always seems to work.
-
There is a widget called flash something or other which is what the f might stand for, but I am sure the inconsistency is a yt end sometimes does sometimes doesn’t.
As Coaster says the url always works, but that takes them off your page of course -
No. The Youtube code I showed above does not take them off your page. It just embeds the YouTube on your blog.
Third option on the FAQ:
-
I was using the old YouTube embed code method, rain. Peculiar. (I can’t try it again right now, but will later.)
-
When I tried to use the embed code for the YouTube video, nothing happened but when I used the URL, it came up. Do we no longer use the codes?
-
You should be able to, but there have been reported glitches. Let staff know via your Support button.
-
The YT embed code is for the flash version (.fl) of YouTube. So, from my own experience, as rain said you have to use the old URL code. The alternative is to download the video to your desktop (I’m a MAC user, so I usually use Seatubes), convert it to .mov (either with Quicktime Pro or with a converter program to mp4), then upload it to your blog (with the memory upgrade) and then put into your post.
