Embedding Vimeo Video

    Hello –
    I am trying to embed a video from vimeo on a page. WordPress is not automatically turning the URL into a Vimeo embed: there is no preview in the visual editor and the page simply contains a hyperlink to the URL, which is not what I am looking for. The URL is not hyperlinked and is on its own line. Any suggestions?

    Hi there!

    Make sure the Vimeo link is not hyperlinked. If you can see the URL in your visual editor and it is shown in your theme’s link color, then it is hyperlinked. Simply select the whole URL and click the “Unlink” icon on your Visual Editor toolbar. Once the URL is unlinked, you will be able to see a playable preview of the video.

    Here are the support docs for Vimeo: https://en.support.wordpress.com/videos/vimeo/

    I hope this helps! Have a great day.

    Hello and thank you for your message : as mentioned in my initial post, I have followed the guidelines, the URL is NOT hyperlinked and is DOES stand on its own line. Any other ideas?
    Thank you<

    @mgalbritton
    You’re welcome.

    This is what I do before I post into any thread:

    1. Click the member link under the username to determine if there are multiple threads on the same issue and if any duplicates have been answered. If there are duplicates and multiples I tag them appropriately with Duplicate and already answered in the sidebar, so Volunteers and Staff are not going around in circles saying the same things in different threads.

    2. Confirm the site URL being referred to and verify where it is hosted. Note: I direct those with WordPress.ORG and/or Jetpack issues to the correct places for support where necessary. (When Posts or Pages are referred to I also ask for those URLs. )

    3. Isolate the wordpress.COM issue(s) and use both wordpress.COM tag search and Google search to locate recent, correct answers provided by Volunteers and Staff. Then so support doc searches.

    4. Compose *a relevant and helpful response that’s aimed to resolve the issue.

    5. If Staff intervention is required I tag the thread with Modlook in the sidebar for their attention and request that the blogger subscribes to the thread. https://en.support.wordpress.com/getting-help-in-the-forums/#how-do-i-get-a-moderatorstaff-reply-for-my-question

    *I have answered threads here for nearly 10 years. I predate the support docs and all but one Staff member being on Support Staff, so I have a private site with hundreds of copy and paste answers that I keep updated. If you want to answer questions, you may want to have such a private site too.

    Best wishes.

    ** Please do not ever provide wordpress.ORG support responses in wordpress.COM support threads. Doing that just creates confusion. We are instructed to politely redirect self-hosting wordpress.ORG bloggers with issues to the forums at http://wordpress.ORG/support
