Embedding Zoom.It Image
-
Zoom.It is a free Microsoft application that allows one to display huge panoramas and scroll around inside them. For example, here is a test one that actually references a normal sized file rather than a huge panorama:
The URL is: http://zoom.it/9JS4
The embedding code is: <script src=”http://zoom.it/9JS4.js?width=auto&height=400px”></script>Mark Murfitt has a WordPress blog using a theme called Autofocus Pro. He was able to embed Zoom.It files simply by copying the embedding code into the HTML page when creating a new page. Here is an example of one of his pages: http://www.joiningphotography.com/bigger-than-a-big-bag-of-big-things/
My blog uses the Twenty Ten theme and if I copy the embedding code into my HTML tab when creating a new entry or editing an old one, it has no effect.
I do have a primitive workaround. If I insert an image and the edit it through the graphic interface, different options come up under editing. I can select the embedding code as “Link URL” and check [Open link in new window] in the advanced tab. Then if you click on the image, the full Zoom.It image appears in another tab but in the Zoom.It website interface, not as an embedded image. Not nearly as elegant.
Mark confirms he is able to embed one of my images in his site using code i supplied, whereas I cannot on mine.
Is there a way I can embed ZoomIt images in my WordPress blog in the same way that Mark does on his?

The site you referenced is not hosted on WordPress.com. Because we use a shared environment, certain scripts are not allowed here.
Check out the Support doc on Code to see what is/is not permitted.

Thank you for your reply, Jennifer.
I was a systems developer for many years but never a web developer and it may very well be my ignorance but the link you supplied doesn’t really tell me anything.
The embedding code <script src=”http://zoom.it/9JS4.js?width=auto&height=400px”></script> to me clearly relates to the source file (src) as referenced in the HTML code for an embedded image, eg:
If it works for Mark’s WordPress Blog, why doesn’t it work for mine? – and then, can it work for mine?

Murray,
It will NOT work because the software will strip the Javascript out. WordPress.COM and wordpress.ORG are completely separate sites that run on different software. WordPress.COM is a muitluser blogging platform and we cannot use blogger initiated JavaScript on free blogs from and being free hosted by wordpress.COM.Please read the sticky post at the head of this forum so you fully comprehend the differences:

@murrayfoote-I am sorry if my explanation was not clear.
As timethief has already pointed out, there is more than one flavor of WordPress. Here on WordPress.com, we cannot embed Javascripts in our blogs. The source file you mention is not an image file (.jpg, .jpeg, .gif, .png, etc.), but a javascript (.js), which, according to the Support doc I mentioned above:
Javascript
Users are not allowed to post JavaScript on WordPress.com blogs. JavaScript can be used for malicious purposes. As an example, JavaScript has taken down sites such as MySpace.com and LiveJournal offline in the past. The security of all the blogs is a top priority and until we can guarantee scripting languages will not be harmful they will not be permitted.
JavaScript from trusted partners, such as YouTube and Google Video, is converted into a WordPress shortcode when a post is saved.
Hope with our explanations it is now clearer to you. Cheers!

OK, thank you, now I understand.
I guess I then have a question for which I expect the answer will be somewhere between “No” and “I have no idea”.
Currently I can define an image as a file type such as JPG and link to a Zoom.It file which then launches in a new tab. Is there any likelihood that Zoom.It images, which I presume are a fairly new file format, will become available for specifying an image from a URL?

The only people who could really give you a definite answer to that are Staff and you can contact them here http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/
