Embeding a Message Board (Not Forum) into a Page
-
Hi there….anybody know a good way to embed a Message Board into a WordPress.com page? I’m trying to create an area on this site where people can leave positive messages (kind of like an online get well card)….having trouble finding some solutions so any input on this would be much appreciated!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I can’t think of a message board embed. Would it work to dedicate a page to that instead and let people use comments to leave positive messages?

Hi there, thanks for answering….that’s a good idea – so you know if people have to have a WordPress account to leave comments or no?

You can control that through your blog settings.
Go to https://wordpress.com/settings/discussion and select the settings you want.
Here is the related support page about discussion settings in case you need to refer to it:

I do not require someone to have an account or be logged in – but I do Moderate all comments, that prevents the odd spammer that gets by the Akismet spam filter and also stops inappropriate or personal stuff getting onto the internet. One blog I Admin for friends, some of their relatives are nuts to be kind and have been known to leave personal rants for the family and phone numbers etc. – – Moderating stops anything that might not be proper

Excellent advice as things can go sideways very quickly and both spammers and trolls are legion on the internet.@funkeegirl
Be keenly aware that the vast and overwhelming majority of all so-called information on the internet is spam. Over 80% of all so-called comments submitted to .wordpress.com blogs every day are spam.Spam comes in waves. There are human beings who get paid to post spam. There are robotic programs that post spam. Setting up anonymous commenting is akin to throwing down a welcome mat to spammers and phishers and all their phishing buddies too.
You have already been prompted that this page > Settings > Discussion is where you set up defaults for comments.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/discussion-settings/Under Discussion Settings please take note of
Other comment settings
_Comment author must fill out name and e-mail
_Users must be registered and logged in to commentNote that the prompt to submit and email address and a website URL will still appear, regardless of your settings, but providing an email address and logging in are not required, and you cannot change this so the prompt does not appear.
You can post instructions for your visitors in a text widget if you wish to set up anonymous commenting. That’s easy to do. You copy and paste this into a text widget:
Readers: Note that the email address and logging in prompts do appear for comments on this blog, but providing an email address and logging in are not required.
P.S. I’m with auxclass on this. I set up full comment moderation ie. “An administrator must always approve the comment” because anonymous commenting is bound to increase the amount of spam your blog will receive.

I can’t remember what I require to leave a comment on my site – but is not much – there are fields for email but not required to fill it in – – I am into making things easy for people – but I don’t get very many comments so not much to do
Overall spam seems to be down this year from last year

Thanks for that guys….I guess I was being naive in thinking that people would be wanting to just write nice stuff as it’s a website to help my Mother who is recovering from a second breast cancer diagnosis….kind of sad that we have to think that way but that’s life I guess! Appreciate you thoughts :)

I’m a cancer survivor (a different kind of cancer though) and I send my very best wishes to your mom. I hope that you won’t experience bad stuff in the comments but odds are that you will. Rise above any crap that’s submitted. Don’t let your mom read it and don’t take it to heart yourself because I didn’t do that once and I was crushed. Know the power of moderating comments is what keeps a site clean and civil and you have the power.

You’re welcome and remain positively focused no matter what because your mum needs to be able to rely on you.
