Emoticons not Showing

    I have emailed staff earlier,

Oh! Well then this thread was not required and the modlook tag ought to be removed. As you entered it you can remove it by clicking the tiny “x”.

Thanks, but I’ll leave it in place for now, as the email was regarding the thread, not the original ‘questions’ I posted.

I am not here for your amusement, nor harassment.

Again, I do not know what you’re talking about.

My first response was correct and helpful.

    Cheers.

That just gave it a new paragraph @galois..

My daughter should not have to muck around with HTML just for a smiley at any rate. Is my point.

    cheers

    Note for Staff

!: <p style=”text-align: center;”>well here we are again.. :)</p> That is how it displays for a ‘new post’ in ‘text / html view’ and the smiley displayed fine. Therefore, it had no bearing on the issue.

2: I copied the post and Found out why it happened at all (I think), I deleted the portfolio shortcodes from the post entirely. Though obviously her first post won’t display / showcase them at all now (I trashed my ‘copy’ of it)… unless there is a way around that? But, then it only displayed one of her smileys’ anyway, Both the one ‘displayed and not’ had that </p> up against it.. She is using justify or center on text, but should that matter? (I occasionally use smileys and always ‘justify’ with no problem).

3: The Share and Like buttons are still not showing for posts.. Have no idea what happened to them, as they are set to ‘on’ in both ‘edit’ and ‘sharing’..

    Thanks.

    Hi Sasha,

Can you please remove any extra spaces around the smileys, so each smiley only has one space before and after it? For the last two smileys, there are multiple spaces around each one and that can prevent the smiley emojis from showing up.

If any of the smiley faces aren’t turned into emoji after that, please let me know and I’ll take another look.

The Share and Like buttons are still not showing for posts.. Have no idea what happened to them, as they are set to ‘on’ in both ‘edit’ and ‘sharing’..

I see what you mean — thanks for pointing out that issue! It looks like adding the portfolio shortcode to blog posts causes trouble for the sharing and like buttons in the post, regardless of what theme you’re using. I reported that issue to our team for further investigation, although I don’t have a timeline for when we’ll be able to resolve that issue. In the meantime, removing the shortcode will make those buttons reappear.

    Hi Rachel,

1: I had tried that earlier and it didn’t work, but have just tried now again for you and no.. it does not work.

2: The shares and like button also did not show for a new post though.

3: I have the lens theme myself, for one of my blogs and both ‘likes’ and ‘shares’ show when showcasing the portfolio projects in a post.. like here: https://apanache.wordpress.com/2015/05/31/recipe-portfolio/

You’re welcome, I’ve also emailed the theme creators, to see if it’s in the design, or a bug. :) Just sorry for my daughter as she was enthusiastic at first. ;/ I’ve also suggested a few different themes that display pix on the home page of posts instead of a ‘portfolio theme’ and she’s still deciding.

Update… the smiley’s seem to work in a new post and less spaces seemed to work (although, once again, not with any of my other blogs.. not that I use smiley’s that often) so deleted the spaces (the reason they were there at all as gaois seemed convinced there should be a space)

At any rate, it is far too confusing, as the theme also seems to ‘not like’ centering / justifying text as it seems to be ‘worse’ when you do this.

Thanks for clarifying this Rachel, I also tried having ‘no space’ on my own blog (I use justify). With any more than ‘no space’ it didn’t work.

The ‘likes’ and ‘shares’ did show for a new ‘plain’ post (as I had previously marked it private..)

The best I could do was to delete the spaces, (so thanks for that) and ‘re publish’ the post without the portfolio ‘showcase’

All the best Rachel, and I’ll let you know if I hear anything from the theme creators.

    Have a great day.

Hi Sasha, I’m glad you were able to get the smileys and sharing buttons working for that post. If there’s anything more I can do at this point to help with your daughter’s site, please let me know!

    Ok, and thanks again :)

    Sincerely,
    Sasha
