Hi there. First, please be aware that whether you empty your site or whether you delete it, cached copies of your posts and pages will remain online for months afterwards. These cached copies are kept by search engines and WordPress.com can do nothing about it.
Also be aware that if you delete your site it will be gone forever and should you even change your mind you won’t be able to register the same address again.
With that in mind, I suggest that you just set your site to private for now. That way, no one will be able to read it, not even your current followers, and should someone click on an existing link or search engine result for your site they will wind up on a landing page stating that your site is private. Eventually your site will drop from search results and most search engines (unfortunately not all) will delete the cached copies of your site. You can set your blog to private via Settings ->Reading: http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/privacy-settings/
If you still want to delete it, you can do so from Tools ->Delete Blog in the WP-Admin dashboard. To delete your blog you must be logged in under the exact same username with which you created it. To prevent accidental deletion there will be multiple warnings that it cannot be reversed and you will have to click on a link in a confirmation email before your site will be deleted. http://en.support.wordpress.com/delete-site/
And you can easily clear your site of all content by following the instructions here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/empty-site/
