Enable Classic Editor

Hi, I just created a FREE new wordpress site. I’ve had no problems with the last couple I’ve used.

I’ve tried using this new ‘gutenburg’ editor you’re released but I can’t get the hang of it. I just want to go back to the classic editor. I don’t want to use ‘classic’ blocks. I also CAN’T install the ‘classic editor’ plugin, since I’m using a free plan.

I just want to use the normal classic editor as I used for my last couple free wordpress sites. Can you please explain how I can do this?

Again, this is for a free wordpress site. And I don’t want to use classic blocks, either. Thanks.

    Chris

  • Hi there,

I assume you’re speaking of vivaelfalafel.wordpress.com, rather than buffgecko.wordpress.com, as vivaelfalafel is the only new site in your account.

The reason you couldn’t switch editors on that site is because it was created with the Modern Business. The Business theme and it’s variants like Modern Business were specifically built for the block editor and use templates that cannot be edited in the classic editor, so for any site with one of those themes the classic editor is automatically disabled.

But as you’ve since switched to a different theme for that site, you should now be able to switch to the classic editor as normal from the editor options menu.
