Enable embed codes
-
i understand the security risk back in beginning. But in this day in age there is so many cool things you can do with the embed code i think it more than make sense to consider an alternative security measure and allow embedding.
i also understand that wordpress.com is for the most part a free service and independently hosted wordpress sites will not have this issue. My point is, this one fact gives a huge advantage to blogger as the free blog service of choice. Also this one feature would eliminate about 75% of the ideas on this page.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I agree I want to post my videos from a youtube account and it ‘s telling me to upgrade to videopress but I don’t see the reason when Blogger let’s you post your videos with no problem.

@lordbraille2
The annoying advertising can be avoided and youtube videos can be inserted by using the youtube shortcode. It takes only moments to type and works whether or not you are using the HTML editor of the HTML editor. -
@gotheem
I took time to visit your blog. May I make a suggestion please?Understand clearly that creating a blog full of embedded videos and other embeds that can be found all over the internet in site after site and placing them in posts that contain zero original text content will not attract much traffic at all. Less than 150 – 200 words of text in posts pretty well guarantees your blog will not impress search engines at all.
If you want to attract traffic it’s not the embeds that are all over the internet on site after site that will for that for you at all. It’s your own unique perspective on what the embeds contain in the text you create in your posts that will generate search engine attention and improve your opportunities to attract search engine traffic.
If all you want to do is post embeds then I suggest Tumblr as the correct blogging platform for you. Th SEO sucks big time but the community of embedders of this and that is warm and friendly.

interesting, ive looked rather diligently for work arounds to no avail. specifically for this site im looking to embed from mlb.com. but my overall point with my post here is that theres all kinds of cool things you can do with embeding from google docs & calenders, surveys (other than poll daddy), mail list sign ups to name a few.
And my further point was that there is no problem at all doing any of these things on wordpress.com’s main competition, blogger. If wordpress.com is compete with sites like blogger and tumblr i believe its time it figured out a way utilize the wealth of options embeding brings to the table.
As for your seo suggestion timetheif, thanks for your suggestion. however in this case there are thousands of brain wilson fans and over a million giants fans i have to promote this idea to via social media and more informational style blogs. im not relying on organic search results. The point is to have these entertaining moments all in one place, not tell the world why its entertaining. Users can comment on that if they wish.
the embed code for the video im trying to post can be found at
do u have a work around ?

Have you tried using VodPod? You can post just about any video to your WordPress.com blog using VodPod’s “Post to WordPress” button. The “Post to WordPress” button will work on just about any site that offers Flash video with an embed code.
If that’s not suitable then Panos can provide a gigya shortcode for videos

Google docs and calendars can be embedded here. Go to the support pages and search for “google”.
As far as what can be done at blogger and other places, apples and oranges. This is a multi-user platform which means we all share the same underlying theme and core wordpress files. Any bad code, intentional or not, introduced by one person could bring down the entire system. And blogger, facebook and such fight this all the time and many have been brought down with bad code.
With this multi-user platform set up the way it is, staff can continually make code changes on the fly and everyone sees those changes immediately. If each of us was in our own walled garden, then it could take take days to update 25 + million sites and that means that updates and new features would come out very slowly and bug fixes and such would also slow down. I’ve seen someone report a bug in the forums here and in less than an hour staff have identified the problem, come up with a fix and rolled that fix out to 25 + million blogs. They can’t do that at blogger and the other services.
Javascript video cannot be done here. Do they possibly have it in a flash version? If so, then the gigya shortcode can probably be used to embed it.

scared path, seriously …..
free blogging services is hardly apples and oranges. it might be Fuji and granny smith but their both apples.
secondly, i will buy that there may have been a security risk in 2006. i don’t claim to be the leading authority but my guess is 5 years and millions of dollars later they can find a solution.
Since when does embeding effect the core files? im not a php wiz or anything but that doesn’t make much sense to me. embeding doesn’t change the php files it changes the html, which is dictated by the php and why im guessing there is a solution to avoid bad code through a php filter.you need to wake up and look around the internet, there are more and more embed code generators in sites everyday. Sooner or later wordpress will have to get with the program.

timetheif, have u tried what your suggesting or you just going by the what someone else written?
here is a page with the google docs embed code
http://gotheem.wordpress.com/submit-your-heem-2/and here is the same code in blogger site.
http://gotheemblog.blogspot.com/The long and short of this is, for the time being blogger is hands down a better choice for video blogging. The vodpod work around butchered the vids into micro frame videos using only 1/5th of the frame. It frankly is just too big of a pain for anything but youtube videos.
Im not to say wordpress.com doesn’t have its usefulness but it falls short in this department. Clearly is not the right choice for the style blog im creating with the “got heem blog” and can only be recommended for more simplistic blog functions.
Your time attempting to assist in this matter is appreciated, thxs
