Enable/Disable comments when there is no Discussion Module in Screen Options

I am trying to go back and disable comments on past entries. The Support page says I need to make the discussion module visible. However, I went to the Screen Options page and there was no check box for Discussions. Any help would be much appreciated.

Post – Likes and Shares, Format*, Categories, Tags, Excerpt, Send Trackbacks, Discussion, Comments**, Slug, Author, Revisions, Writing Helper
Page – Likes and Shares, Page Attributes, Featured Image, Discussion, Comments**, Page Revisions, Slug, Author, Revisions, Writing Helper* Format module is displayed if the theme supports post formats.
** The comments module will only displayed if the Post has comments. -
Thanks, but I’m afraid this list isn’t helping me. I need a step-by-step. So I go to the post I want to disable comments from, and then what? What is the step-by-step I need to do from that point?

Oooh, never mind, I may have figured it out. Thanks. I just wish there were a way to disable comments for the entire blog rather than having to do it for each post individually.

This page > Settings > Discussion
Discussion settings is where you set up defaults for comments.
We can also override the default settings and enable or disable future comments on any post or page.

Depending on the theme we use when we close comments a phrase like “comments closed” or a similar phrase may appear and if so, it can only be removed by CSS editing after purchasing a custom design upgrade. -
You can go to settings > discussion in the dashboard and turn off comments and trackbacks globally for all future posts and pages (toward the top of the page). Any existing posts or pages will need to have them turned off manually. You can use the bulk edit feature in the all posts and all pages screen to make that quicker.

This is not about themes – it’s not at all theme related. Blogs are designed for interactive communication. All WordPress blogs have comments open on all pages and posts by default.

Oh, okay. Well, I created my blog so that I have one safe space in my life to share what’s on my heart, and I’ve discovered that that means I have to keep comments closed. Thanks for all the help. :-)

To help me at least pretend that someone listens and cares. A private blog would mean I’m talking to myself, and I don’t need that in my life.

With a private blog, you can invite as many people as you desire to view it, so you need not be talking to yourself.

I don’t want any of my friends to know about this blog. They belittle me enough as it is. My friends do not support me and do not provide a safe space for me. So I have no-one to invite. I’m fine enough with strangers reading my blog, it’s like a random conversation you might have on the bus with some stranger whom you’ll never see again. Those conversations are important, too.
