Enabling the Theme Editor (currently disabled)

  • Unknown's avatar

I am having difficulty enabling the Theme Editor (I need to do so in order to install a pixel for TikTok) I installed the file manager plug in but I still do not see the Diasallow field

My current theme is: Twenty SeventeenVersion: 3.2

    WP.com: Yes
    Correct account: Yes

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to moderators and staff)

  • Hi there,

The only sites I see on your @gaidensaga WordPress.com account when I check on our end are listed here:

    • gaidensaga.wordpress.com

That site is not using the Twenty Seventeen theme however. Is it possible you created your site under a different login that we are not able to see?  What is the URL of the site you are needing help with?

Happy to check in our system so we can take a closer look.

  • Hi there,

I see that your site is not hosted on WordPress.com. You’re running a self-hosted WordPress site (also known as WordPress.org installation). The Theme Editor issue you’re having might be caused by your theme’s settings or a plugin conflict. For more help, I would like to direct you to the WordPress.org support forums: https://wordpress.org/support/forums/

It’s worth noting that WordPress.com and self-hosted WordPress sites are different. WordPress.com is a fully-managed, all-in-one platform that takes care of hosting, updates, and security for you, while self-hosted WordPress sites give you more flexibility and control over your site, but require you to handle updates, security, and hosting yourself.

If you’re interested in moving your site to WordPress.com, we offer in-house WordPress support, making it easier for you to manage your site. Just head over to https://wordpress.com/support/import/#self-hosted-word-press-org-site and follow the provided steps to migrate your site.

Let me know if you have any other questions, and I’ll be happy to help.

Interesting. We just did it through GoDaddy so we had no idea there were 2 different options with regards to hosting. Are there any additional fees required in migrating? Will our login details change as well?

When we attempt to import content…is this the same?

WordPressInstall Now | DetailsImport posts, pages, comments, custom fields, categories, and tags from a WordPress

We are not seeing the Import text that states “I want to import content from:” select WordPress.

I have attached a screen shot

  • Hi there,

When we attempt to import content…is this the same?

It’s a little different that what you are showing, which is the built in import/export option for moving your content (pages, blog posts, uploaded media, etc.)but does not move your themes, plugins, or site design. If you want to move an exact copy of your site, we have a guide here you can follow: https://wordpress.com/support/import-using-move-to-wordpress-com/

The short version is that you will need to add our plugin and it handles the full migration.

Are there any additional fees required in migrating? Will our login details change as well?

We don’t charge “hosting fees” since we include hosting, even on our free sites. However, to move an exact copy of your existing site will require upgrading to our Business Plan. It is not possible to upload themes and plugins on our lower-level plans, so that is the plan you would need since the site you would be moving here already has plugins/themes installed on it.

Your login details would change (to the ones you use currently to log in to your WordPress.com account, the one you are speaking to us through now) but only because we use enhanced account security to prevent brute-force logins. Our managed hosting also offers the following advantages over standard web hosts:

    • Simplified setup and maintenance, reducing the technical knowledge needed to run a website.
    • Automatic updates and backups ensure your site stays secure and up-to-date without manual intervention.
    • The platform includes built-in performance optimization, delivering faster page load times and improved user experience.
    • Expert customer support is available to assist with any issues, providing peace of mind and quick resolutions.

Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.

We already installed the JetPack plug in…however I am still not seeing ” “I want to import content from:” select WordPress.” feature

  • Unknown's avatar

Is there an additional plug in we would need to download?

When you refer to the following…”However, to move an exact copy of your existing site will require upgrading to our Business Plan. It is not possible to upload themes and plugins on our lower-level plans, so that is the plan you would need since the site you would be moving here already has plugins/themes installed on it…”

Which Jetpack plan are you referring to us upgrading into? Additionally, is there a chat that we can communicate through to expedite this process?

  • Hi again,

Which Jetpack plan are you referring to us upgrading into?

Jetpack is our plugin which adds some of the cloud-based features that are pre-installed on sites using our managed hosting. Essentially it gives you some of the benefits onf WordPress.com (the functionality we pre-install on sites here) but it does not have the ability to confer our hosting advantages onto a site with another provider.

Because of this there is not a Jetpack plan that is equivalent. To take advantage of our managed hosting you would instead be moving your site to us under the WordPress.com Business plan.

We already installed the JetPack plug in…however I am still not seeing ” “I want to import content from:” select WordPress.” feature

The Jetpack plugin does not have the ability to manage this kind of migration, but if you first need to install and activate the Move to WordPress.com plugin and then you will see the option to migrate: https://wordpress.com/support/import-using-move-to-wordpress-com/

Additionally, is there a chat that we can communicate through to expedite this process?

When you migrate you will be prompted to upgrade to the Business Plan, and that does include priority 24/7 support including the option to use live chat. However I do not have a way to enable chat on a free accounts unfortunately, but if you run into further issues you can let us know here and we will be happy to help!

    Thanks!
