Enabling visitors to my home page to leave comments.

    My blog is set up such that the most recent posts are displayed on the home page. the WP template that i use (twenty ten) does not provide a comments box on the home page. in order to leave a comment, visitors have to click on the post to go to the next page, scroll to the bottom and then fill out the comments box. Most people are not WP savvy enough to figure this out. i have received multiple emails asking me on how to leave comments (i have set it up such that anyone can leave a comment). I want to add a comments box right on my home page at the end of each post. Can i do so ? if so, how ?

    There isn’t a way to put the comments, nor the comment box on the main page. For comments, if you get a lot of comments, it can make the home page nearly impossible to navigate because people have to scroll so far to get to the next post. I follow a couple blogs that 250 to 700 comments on each post.

    With the CSS upgrade, the “leave a comment” link can be make much more prominent, but that is about the only way with that theme. Example: http://flippintestblog.files.wordpress.com/2010/12/comment.png

    You can also look at the P2 theme, which is more of a “twitter” type of collaboration thing and it does show the comments and comment box right on the blog main page.

    The other thing you could do is to put a prominent “How to leave a comment” text widget at the top of your sidebar.

    Oh, and by the way, the colors and the exaggerated font size are just for demonstration purposes.

    TheSacredPath, thanks for the advice. this is very helpful. I like the idea of creating a “Leave a comment” text widget at the top of my side bar. How do i do that ? Specifically, i know how to create widget, but i think i will need to write some HTML code that will take the reader to the comments box. i don’t know how to do that. can you help/advise?
