Enabling widgets in the side bar in Chunk theme

I have a wordpress blog with the pro customisation feature, and recently changed the theme to chunk. I really like the theme however there doesn’t seem to be a way I can move the widgets from the bottom of the screen to the right hand side.
in the widgets menu the sidebars are listed as inactive, and I cannot seem to be able to activate them.
all help welcome!
