Endless spammers. How to stop it?

  • Unknown's avatar

For the past few days, I’ve been getting literally over 90 to 100 spam comments on all my posts. How do I stop this? It’s getting out of control! I hope someone knows!

    Much appreciated!

    Thank you in advance.

  • Most of the spam on WordPress.com hosted sites should have been caught by Akismet. Is your website hosted by WordPress.com or some other web host? Please share the website address you need help with.

    Hi there!

Aw, so sorry that this is happening to you. Can I get a URL, to your site to see what’s happening, and/or link to the post with the spam comments?

This helps me on the next steps forward :)

    Cheers :)

I didn’t approve the spam comments. It’s in my unapproved folder but I manually deleted all of them :/

    Hi there!

I am so sorry but you are using the wrong forum center. You need to know the difference between WordPress.com, and WordPress.org, because they aren’t the same forums. Each have different but some same features. If you still don’t understand, read on.

You are on WordPress.com Forums, when you would need to be on WordPress.org forums, for this request, as this is for hosted sites, and not for “self” hosted sites under their own hosts.

The difference between WordPress.com forums and WordPress.org can be found here. Basically, they have they have the same name, but the difference is .org, and .com, and have different options in each. Also, WordPress.com, is where everything is done for you, and WordPress.org, where you manage you servers, etc.

WordPress.com and WordPress.org have different username accounts, logins, features, run different versions of some themes with the same names, and have separate support documentation and separate support forums.

Also, I see that your site is hosted from these registrars:

    NS1.BLUEHOST.COM
    NS2.BLUEHOST.COM

You might want to contact their support center and get more information, and contact them for more information regarding this. I’m not sure if WordPress.com may have support over this, but I’ll tag this as Modlook just in case.

The forums for WordPress.org can be found here.

We’re so sorry we couldn’t assist you further, and wish you success with your site.

    Cheers!

  • https://www.finsavvypanda.com/ is using WordPress software from https://wordpress.org on Bluehost servers.

You can use Akismet and any other plugin on your site to prevent spam.

However, support for WordPress.org software sites is offered in the support forums at https://wordpress.org/support/forums/

WordPress.org and WordPress.com are different in structure and can be confusing. More information about the differences can be found here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

Ah I see! Sorry, that was my mistake. I’m still new to blogging so I apologize for any hassle!

Thank you both for your help. I’ll take a look at the link you sent. Also thanks for the recommendation.

Again, I apologize for any inconvenience!
