Enlarging an image

I have a blog that often requires clicking on an image and it will get much larger. I have not had a problem with this in the past but lately I hover over the image and it will show the hand symbol and it can be enlarged if I click on it but later with the same image I hover over it and it can not be enlarged and only shows the pointer. Is there a setting for this or something I am not aware of?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

That sounds like a browser issue. Log out of wordpress, clear your browser cache and cookies, restart your browser and see if that doesn’t take care of the issue. There is no reason that the code for the image would change after a post is published.

Do you have a link to a post where this has happened?

But it does work on this one…

That first image IS the full size of the image. Go into Edit and look at the picture in your post: did you insert it Thumbnail size, perchance?

No, they were all loaded with a setting of medium. Like I said in my first post. Some you could click and make bigger and come back later and could not.

    Anyone else have any ideas?

Well, your “Little” image just isn’t a linking image. Click on it in the visual editor, click the mountain icon that shows up, click Link to Image, click Update [image], click Update [post].

When you add a new image, make sure to click “File URL” before inserting it.

That definately got me half way there. It now allows me to open it up in a seperate window but when it opens it is the same sized image as before. Is there a simple way of making it the larger version when it is clicked?

What Panos and I are saying is, you uploaded a small image in the first place. The size it appears on the blog IS the size you uploaded.

I know what you are saying but it isn’t the case. I uploaded all of my pictures at a size of ‘medium’. It appeara that i uploaded them at a smaller size because once they have been enlarged they revert to a smaller unclickable image. I have begun uploading as panaghiotisadam recommended –>”When you add a new image, make sure to click “File URL” before inserting it.” and all my new images are no longer having a problem. Now it is only a problem with sthe older ones.

The curious thing about it is…I click on “File URL” and nothing actually happens. It seems to already be a default but like I said it seems to be working so I click on it whether I need to or not.

    Thanks for everyone’s help.

“I click on “File URL” and nothing actually happens. It seems to already be a default”.

Yes, after you do this once it becomes the default till you click one of the other two options.

“Medium has nothing to do with the size the image is UPLOADED at. It has to do with the INSERTION size – the size displayed in the post.

I can upload a 40,000px by 50,000px image, and if I choose to insert it into a post at “medium” it is going to display in that post at 300px wide as that is the standard size for a “medium” image. If I link the image to the file, then people are going to see the 40,000px x 50,000px image when they click on the 300px wide image in the post.

You have to prepare your images at the size you want them when someone clicks on them and then upload THAT image. WordPress will take care of creating the medium sized image that will display in the post or page, and as long as the image you uploaded is large, and linked to the smaller image in the post, the larger image will show up when you click on the smaller image.

    In this category, http://23skidoopostcards.wordpress.com/category/animals/ :

The first image, http://23skidoopostcards.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/234.jpg was uploaded at 151px x 208px. That is why is shows small when clicked.

The second imag,e http://23skidoopostcards.files.wordpress.com/2010/06/captain-skippin-frog.jpg was uploaded at 737 x 1183 and that is the size it shows when clicked.

The third image, http://23skidoopostcards.files.wordpress.com/2010/06/959931.jpg , was uploaded at 446 x 680 but was NOT linked to the larger image when inserted.

the fourth image, http://23skidoopostcards.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/2m.jpg , was uploaded at 1043 x 1653 and that is the size the shows when clicked.

The fifth image, http://23skidoopostcards.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/2d.jpg , was uploaded at 1632 x 1029 and that is the size that shows when clicked.

On the first image that shows small when clicked, it is because that is the size that was uploaded. Check your image files and create a new image larger, upload that image and then delete the smaller image in insert the larger image at medium.

The third image needs to be edited and “link to file” selected (make sure to “update” the image and then save the post).

Now that makes sense. Thank you very much. Unfortunately the confusion began with people assuming I was smarter tan I was. Thanks again.

Not a problem and that happens to all of us. Glad to help.
