Enlarging Images

  • Unknown's avatar

Hello there, I have noticed that with recent blog posts my readers cannot click on an image to enlarge it, but with older blog posts they could do this. I haven’t changed anything with my account that I’m aware of, does anyone have any advice with how to solve this? I would like for people to still be able to click to enlarge images.
Sorry if it’s a silly question and I’ve missed something simple!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi,

If you change the “link to” setting once, on an image in a post or page, WordPress.com adopts that as your new universal setting for all future images. You can change the setting on previously embedded images as follows:

    1. In the post or page editor, click on the image.
    2. Click the Edit (pencil icon) tab in the popup toolbar above the image to open the Image Details page.
    3. At Image Details > Display Settings > Link to, select “Attachment page” or “Media File,” according to your preference. The Custom URL choice is for when you want to link the image to an URL of your choice. The images on the post “Borneo – Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre” evidently have the link to setting on “None.”
    4. After making your selection, click the “Update” button.

This updated setting will apply to future images inserted in or uploaded to any page or post on the site, until you change the setting again. However, the setting must be changed manually on each of the affected images previously embedded in posts or pages.

Occasionally, this setting may be altered without your changing anything by the universal application of a WordPress.com update. So it’s best to check the setting once in a while.

For a single image, the method that musicdoc1 describes works when inserting an image in a post/page from the WP Admin Dashboard.

However, when inserting images in the New Dashboard, the only way I’ve found to link to the larger image is once you’ve inserted your image in your post or page, make sure it is highlighted and then click on the “Link” icon in the WYSIWYG toolbar’s top row. In the box the link to the full size image will be already highlighted and you can also check the box “Open link in a new window/tab”.

If there is another method to “enlarge” an image using the New Dashboard, I’d be happy to learn about it. :)

    @justjennifer,

Thanks for the assist! : )
And for reminding me that there is a New Dashboard. It’s quite blue, I hear.

Thank you guys! I tried following musicdoc1’s instructions but yes, it doesn’t seem to work with the new dashboard from where I usually edit my posts. Thank you both for your information, I’ve been able to sort it now :)

    Many thanks,
    Sam

    Sam,

You’re welcome! I’m learning to identify which editor (new or wp-admin) I’m referring to in instructions. : )
