    I would like to buy a domain for my website, can i buy and use the domain on the free plan, or do i have to upgrade to the personal plan or higher before i can use the domain?

    Thank you for your response. What i want to do now is to buy a domain here on wordpress, but i would like to know if it will work without having to buy any of the paid plans as well.

    I mean, can i buy a domain here on wordpress and use with the free plan without necessarily having to upgrade to a paid plan?

    You would need a domain and a hosting plan. Many hosts, including us, will include the first year of a domain free with hosting. You can also use a domain with other web services, like email. And sometimes folks will buy a domain just to save it for later if they have an idea and want to reserve the name, but don’t want to build the site yet. That would be the only case where I would recommend buying a domain alone.

    For what it’s worth, if you buy a domain here and do not buy a hosting plan, the domain can automatically redirect to your free address, so that can be one way to save it for later while also building your site. If you want to go that route and need help getting started, let us know!
