"enter"-button

Hi! I’m wondering if /how I add a “enter”-button to my webpage that I would like to have as a static “front page” that then reveals a page with menu and such? I have tried looking under widgets and sidebars, but as I’m a complete novis to webdesign as well as wordpress, it is beyond me to find info on it. I would also like to disable comments on this first “front page” but can not find the “settings” and “discussion” pages.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi nfalkestav,

A splash page with “Enter” like you describe would require changing some of the functionality of WordPress and isn’t possible on a WordPress.com site. There are plugins available for this type of change for use on self-hosted sites.

You can still have a static front page, but it would also contain your navigation menu and header. If you’d like to create a static front page, follow this guide:

    Set the Homepage

Currently I see you have one page, Om. You can disable the comments on this page by following these steps:

    1. Visit the page, and click edit.
    2. On this page, scroll down until you see the “Discussion” module that looks like this
    3. Uncheck those boxes.
    4. If you do not see the Discussion module, make sure Discussion is checked in your “Screen Options”, then scroll down again.
    5. Click update to save the page.

    Best,

thanks for the reply!I know someone else recommended wordpress.org for me but I’m a bit frightened of it since I’m not programmer/ technician and not very handy around computers, but is it relatively easily done or can you have people help you out to do it like here? I’d love to make my site more as I want it, but it’s a bit daunting…

    Howdy,

Using WordPress.org self-hosted is a bit more difficult. The advantage is you can customize everything because you’ll have access to all your sites files. We’ve tried to make WordPress.com easier to get everything setup from the start, so our users can focus more on the content of their site instead of setting up unfamiliar technology.

With self-hosted sites, there isn’t as much of a support staff, but there are forums here where lots of volunteers help out:

Regarding the splash page, it’s really just not as common on websites anymore, that’s why it’s not really built-in. Could you walk me through why you feel your readers benefit from the enter button before reaching your content? I could try to figure out a good alternative that would work on WordPress.com

    Best,

    -Alex G.
