Entering comments to the above site

When I enter comments to the above site I always have to enter my wordpress password. Is that normal? More importantly the author of the site tells me he always has to approve my comments first. This is something he doesn’t have to do with anyone else and the site has been going for 12 years. What am I doing wrong? Also I notice that the time stamp on the site is one behind BST. How does the author correct this?

    WP.com: Yes
    Correct account: Unknown

  • Hi there,

What is the URL of your site so we can look it up in our system? I do not see any sites listed under your WordPress.com account so you are referring to a site that was set up by someone else?

You can confirm here we see no WordPress.com sites under your account: https://wordpress.com/sites/

    Thanks for the additional info!

I can confirm I have a WordPress.com account but I do note have a site myself. The problem I have is with this site: https://hampshirecrickethistory.wordpress.com/

When I want to post a comment to the hampshirecrickethistory site I have to enter my WordPress password and the author of the site has to approve my posting. The author says I am the only person in 12 years that he has to do this for. What am I doing wrong? Should I delete my account?

Also the author needs to be able to change the time stamp on the site but doesn’t know how to. At the moment time is stamped as GMT (Greenwich Mean Time) but should be on BST (British Summer Time).

    Thanks

  • Hi there,

When you’re leaving a comment, are you already logged in to your WordPress.com account? Do you see the same message as in the following screenshot?

No I don’t. It is similar but not the same. I get:

Under the “Leave a Reply” box I get –
Fill in your details below of click an icon to log in (the icons are WordPress, Google, Twitter and Facebook)
I don’t click anything but the following below are already completed –
my email address “(email visible only to moderators and staff)”, then next line “Don Starr”, then next line (website) which is blank.

When I click on “Post Comment” I am then asked for my WordPress password.

Having said all that I have just made a test “post comment” which DID NOT ask for my password. Whether the author of the site still has to approve my comment remains to be seen.

    Thanks

  • Glad it seems to be working. Let us know if you encounter further problems.

It isn’t working completely as the author of the site tells me he still has to authorise my posts. I am the only one he has to do that.

I also asked, on his behalf, how he could change the time stamp from GMT to BST ie move the time one hour forward.

    Thanks

  • Hi there,

It sounds as if we’re not detecting you as being logged-in already when you visit that site.

Are you perhaps using any browser add-ons that block cookies? That would explain what you’re experiencing, so if you do, see if adding an exception for WordPress.com cookies make any difference.

the author of the site tells me he still has to authorise my posts. I am the only one he has to do that.

That’s because you’re commenting as a logged-out user, just providing your email address. You’re not actually commenting as your WordPress.com account, likely due to the login tracking cookie being blocked.

I also asked, on his behalf, how he could change the time stamp from GMT to BST ie move the time one hour forward.

The site timezone can be changed at Settings ->General in the dashboard:

Thanks. Regarding your first sentence, do I need to log into my account BEFORE I post a comment? I never do but I was asked to do so once I had posted.

I have passed on the time/settings point.

It’s not required, but it’ll make the commenting process faster.
