entering info on web page in WordPress
-
I am entering new information, specifically a spread sheet pdf. The title is changed by wordpress…capitals are changed to lower case, dashes are inserted between words. When I try to edit the file title after it has been entered in WP, the colors are changed. Why is this happening and how can I fix it?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
There is no way we can edit anything in a PDF that you add to your site. Same goes for any other document that you embed. Embedded documents are not actually “on” your website, but is hosted somewhere else – what you see on your site is only a live picture of the document, not the document itself – so we have no access to the actual document to change anything on it.
On exactly what page on your site are these changes taking place? And can you please provide screen shots of what it looks like before and after the change so I can see exactly what you’re speaking of? You can upload the screen shots directly to your media library, then I’ll be able to see them:

I’m sorry. I’m not making the problem clear. Nothing in the actual document is being changed.
Here’s what is happening:
I go to my web site and to the page I want to add something. I click “Add Media”
then “Add New”. This takes me to my document list on my computer. I select the file I want to insert and it does insert it but it alters the name of the document.
For example:
The File or document title is: Eagles 9-29-2016 Pine Lakes
When inserted the title changes to: eagles-9-29-2016-pine-lakes
If I try to change it on the web page, the color changes and isn’t like the other entries. This has just started in the last couple of weeks…worked fine before that.
I have no idea what has happened or how to fix it. -

The File or document title is: Eagles 9-29-2016 Pine Lakes
When inserted the title changes to: eagles-9-29-2016-pine-lakesThis is supposed to happen. File names of files in the media library cannot have spaces in them.
What you’re also doing is to insert a link to the file in your media library, so if someone clicks on that link they can view the file in their browser, or download it to their hard drive.
To change how that link appears, click on it in the editor, and click the pencil icon that should appear, or highlight it and click the link icon in the editor toolbar.
If you want to embed the PDF on your site instead (meaning the actual document is visible on your post, not just the link), the easiest way is to create a free Cloudup.com account and upload the PDF there. Then paste the Cloudup link on its own line in the post or page where you want the document to appear.

OK. Thanks. I think I got that. But…wondering why it just started doing that. Previously…for a long time it entered the link name just as it was in the file title. Then suddenly changed. As far as I am aware, I didn’t change how I uploaded the file.

The media library has always converted the actual file name, but there could have been a change in how the link is added in the editor. I’ll look into this and make sure it’s reported should it turn out to be a bug.
