Entering results grid in page
-
Hi,
I’m totally new to this website creating stuff and i’m a bit stuck. I’ve tried finding the answer to my question on the forums here but can’t see if anyone has tried already and don’t even know if it’s possibe but i wonder if anyone might know how to enter a results grid into worpress?I’ve tried copy and pasting into the page and via the ‘W’ symbol but it appears totally re-arranged or with no spacing etc.
The type information i want to add as it looks is here:
http://full-time.thefa.com/Table.do?divisionseason=169461
https://sites.google.com/site/wallingfordfootball/2012-13/player-stats
https://sites.google.com/site/wallingfordfootball/2012-13/results
If i could produce my own grid, that would be fine and i’d just manually enter the info if there’s enough room.
I’m making a football history, statistics, results site and most of my site will be in this format.
Maybe there’s a better theme to use for this type of site?
Many thanks for any advice,
Steven

It’ll be tedious, but you can create the grid using an HTML table. Here’s a tutorial http://www.w3schools.com/html/html_tables.asp
Enter the HTML in the text screen of your editor.

Here is a good article about making tables on WordPress.com:

I believe Windows Live Writer can write tables. -
Thanks for all the info,
The html method works for 2-4 or 5 coloumns but you’re limited on how much content you’re able to add and it still looks messy.I’ll do a bit more research using the links you’ve supplied and see if i can imprve what i’ve done :-]

Chateau does not have a very wide post area so if your tables need to be wide for legibility then you should look for a theme with wider posts. If you search for a different theme make sure you like the way tables are displayed. Some themes have CSS to set the appearance of tables.

Hi 1tess,
That’s great advice, i’ll have a look at some other themes and find out what CSS is! -
CSS is cascading style sheet. It is code used to set up how a site appears: background color, borders on pictures or tables, font size or font family or font color, and so on. You probably don’t need it at this point. I only brought it up because some themes add quirky code on tables, and IMO the designers should just leave them alone—no add kooky looking things to them.

Nice one, thanks. Never thoght i’d find this stuff interesting but i’m quite enjoying learning it.

LOL. I’m guessing you like solving puzzles. That’s how it is for me anyway.
It occurs to me that this might be helpful in searching for wider themes. Itls a chart of maximum image widths, but it has not been updated to include newer themes (see note in sidebar): -
Hi Tess,
Thank you again for your excellent advice, the last link you sent is great. It’s really interesting seeing how the different themes themes change the site. :-]
