en.wordpress.com redirects to ar.wordpress.com

  Hi,
  I live in the UAE. I actually type in en.wordpress.com into the address bar to make sure i don’t have to deal with Arabic. for some reason, it still redirects to ar.wordpress.com. Why? (Only about 15% of the population in the UAE is actually Emirati, so I’m not even sure that Arabic is the best default choice.)

  There are a couple things to check here. First, is your interface language set to English on this page?

  https://wordpress.com/me/account

  That will help make sure you see the site in English when you are logged in.

  When you are logged out, you can scroll to the black bar at the bottom of the home page https://wordpress.com

  and set your language to English there as well.

  Once that’s done you shouldn’t have to add the prefix, you’ll just see WordPress.com in English.

  Let me know if you have any more trouble with that.

  Hi, Liz.

  Yes, my interface language is English, that’s not the problem. My university actually has extremely high levels of protection on its computers – no passwords or preferences are stored besides the absolute basics. In addition, I actually work from several different computers depending on classroom assignments, etc., so this actually goes back to before I even sign in. I’d like to be able to type in en.wordpress.com and just get English so I can sign in without any guesswork or scrolling down to set the language at the bottom.

  Is English set as the default language in your web browser settings? That is what it took for me when logging in from my pc.

  However, from my mobile phone I’m routinely rerouted to he.wordpress.com from en.wordpress.com and it seems to be based on location settings. It doesn’t change regardless of what settings I have in my browser or on WPcom.

  I double checked on this to be sure, but we try to guess the local language when a browser is set to default values. Usually, this works well but for your case I can see how that’s really annoying.

  I recommend you try justjennifer’s ideas. If that doesn’t help, switching to English at the bottom of the page is your best option.
