Epub format

  I know EPUB format is currently not allowed in WP media library. I would recommend to reconsider this decision, since it is the de-facto main e-book format, used now even by Amazon Kindle (replacing MOBI).

  Blogs with longer articles would profit a lot if their readers would have an option to read the text on their dedicated e-readers.

  Hi there @matjazcrnivec – thank you for the suggestion. Acceptable file types are something handled in WordPress Core. You can see the security reasons here in this ticket from 10 years ago why support for the EPUB format was not added:

  Unfortunately XML files need to be carefully sanitized in order to not be vulnerable to some serious vulnerabilities, namely an XML bomb (exponential entity expansion) and XXE (XML external entity) injection. We have no plans to attempt this in core, as these are just incredibly dangerous.

  Then why do Amazon and Apple have the ability to download these files and WordPress doesn’t? People want to sell their own digital books without sharing profits, with the conglomerates, who want 30 to 40% for doing nothing to generate them.
