Erase special CSS and return to regular theme

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi. For several years I had a few websites with different themes. Most were custom themes. I did some CSS editing (with lots of help from forums) to change the appearance of the themes.

Now I changed all my sites to the same theme (Penscratch II). It looks like the special CSS has moved to the new theme as well.

Id there a way to erase all the CSS I did in the past, so that I can start with new clean themes? Or can I cancel by upgrade to the custom theme?

Here is an example of one site with the regular CSS.

Here are some examples of a site with special CSS that makes the appearance strange.

    https://analogvelo.wordpress.com/
    Or
    https://mountainbikedesign.wordpress.com/

Any help you can offer about how to make these sites the same with consistent CSS would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Bruno, https://mountainbikedesign.wordpress.com/ does not have the Premium or Custom Design upgrade, so there is no custom CSS applied to that site.

On https://analogvelo.wordpress.com/, if you go to Customize > CSS, you will see that there is no custom CSS applied.

On Mountain Bike Design, you have a static front page set (Customize > Static Front Page) and on Analog Velo, you do not have a static home page set.

On Analog Velo, you do not have any sidebar widgets, while on Mountain Bike Design, you do. That makes a difference in how things will look. Remove the widgets from MBD, or add widgets to Analog Velo and then they will look virtually the same.

If you wish them all to look the same, make certain that all the settings in all three under Customize are the same.

    Hi,

Thanks for your reply. So I went trough all the sites and tried to make everything as consistent as possible.

Here is a site that looks good:
    https://iceaxes.wordpress.com/

Here is a site with some strange formatting–it’s all shifted over to one side. There don’t seem to be any widgets or menus…any ideas?
    https://raceandgenetics.wordpress.com/

And here is a site with a different font and font size. On the other sites I simply choose “default.” On this site, for some reason, there is no default. Again…any ideas?
    https://analogvelo.wordpress.com/

I do notice a difference between the menus I can access from sites that i formally had custom themes (like analog velo) and the sites that did not have custom themes (like ice axes).

I wish there was a way to “erase” the custom theme options…but they seemed to be built in and transfer with the site when you switch to a new theme.

I know my desire to have all the sites the same is compulsive, but I can’t help myself, and it drives me crazy.

    You help is appreciated.

On https://raceandgenetics.wordpress.com/, you have a static front page set. On https://iceaxes.wordpress.com/, your main page is set to show the blog posts.

On the fonts on https://analogvelo.wordpress.com/, go to Customize > Fonts and click the “X” at the right end of the font selection sections and save.

When you switch themes, very little transfers from one to the other. Things like whether you are using a static page as a home page, and whether you have pages set for the default page template or another typically will transfer.

Hi. Again, thank you very much for your help. Clicking the “X” helped me restore the Default fonts. Great. I have gone through the sites, and adjusted everything so that not they are almost all the same.

The only problem I have is with the following site:
    https://raceandgenetics.wordpress.com/

No matter how I change the front page–static, recent posts, home, whatever–the site always appears squeezed over one side–not in the middle of the screen, as with the other sites.

I also checked for widgets and menus, and I switched back and forth between different options, without being able to solve the problem.

It does look to me (but I could be wrong) that I had some CSS from an old theme on this site, but I have no idea if that is still influencing the appearance (probably not) or if I could erase it.

It could also be a problem with my laptop screen, although I don’t know why, because all the other sites look fine.

Do you have any ideas about how I might “center” the page?

    All the best,

    Bruno

I solved my problem! It had to do with menus in the end. Thank you sincerely for you help. You pointed me in the right direction, and I figured it out. All the best.,
