Errant categories showing on a blog that's not supposed to showing categories.
-
One of my blogs only uses tags, not categories. The settings indicate categories should not show. Yesterday, I accidentally created some because of confusion with the new editor. I noticed the error just now, and deleted four of the six, but can’t get rid of the last two. Again, the setting are unchanged so they shouldn’t be showing in the first place.

The default category is “uncategorized” and there are two ways of being shed of it.
(1) Create your own default category https://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/categories/#setting-the-default-category
(2) Purchase a custom design upgrade and suppress the display via CSS editing.
See here for details on purchasing the annually renewable custom design upgrade required for CSS editing:

I visited your blog and noted your displeasure re: using the new Beep Beep Boop editor. You do not have to use it. For locating the ways and means of accessing the legacy or classic pages for creating posts, editing posts, and viewing stats see here > Navigating the Classic WordPress.COM interface http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2015/04/05/navigating-the-classic-wordpress-com-interface/
