Erratic View Counts Back Again
-
A couple of months ago there was a widespread problem with view counts going up and down all day, and it was eventually fixed. Now it seems to be back. For example, on my blog http://theconsciousprocess.wordpress.com/
The count was 103, then an hour later it was 88, then 10 minutes later it was 119. The last time we had this problem it lingered for about a week before being fixed. Hopefully, it will be easier now to fix.
PS: I noticed somebody else had mentioned a flood of obvious spam, and I am experiencing the same thing over the last week or so.
Thank you for your efforts!

If you are sure your stats need to be investigated then you need to be specific and post details here so Staff know exactly which stats you are referring to when they get to this thread.
You can post screenshots and share them with Staff. You can use http://snag.gy/ to share screenshots. Or you can use the WordPress.com guide I linked to and upload it to your Media Library, and return to this thread to provide the file name so Staff can examine it.

How much more specific can I be? I gave you the blog address, and I said the view counts for the day are fluctuating, and I gave you an example of how they are showing I.e. right now they are going back and forth between 88 and 119. On 2 of my other blogs, I notice the same problem https://feelingtoinfinity.wordpress.com/
http://spiritguidesparrow.wordpress.com/Here is a link to my stat page for the first blog: https://wordpress.com/my-stats/?blog=40666365
You will notice now it is showing 89 views. 10 minutes earlier it was showing 119.
As I mentioned previously, you had this same problem back in November, IIRC, and a number of member brought it to your attention.
Thanks!

I am noticing the same thing, they keep changing, one minute they are up and then they are down again. It is weird and just like it was a couple of months ago.

Thanks you for the details you provided for Staff. I am a Volunteer. This is a peer support forum where Staff and Volunteers work together cooperatively to provide WordPress.com support. Emailing support means it takes longer to get an answer than posting to the support forums does. Please do only one or the other.
Staff work through all forum threads tagged for their attention and through all email support tickets in order of datestamps and timestamps – first posted first served, as would be expected.
How long it takes to clear the threads and support tickets depends on how many Happiness Engineers are working on them at any given point in time. It also depends on how complex the issues in each thread and ticket are.Staff have a considerable backlog of threads tagged for their assistance. Please don’t bump your thread by posting into it again because it’s not in your best interest to post to it after it has been tagged for Staff help. Doing that moves the timestamps forward and it takes longer to get a response.

I am experiencing similar fluctuations in the hit count. It has gone down, back up, down again and is finally back up. I have some images of the count if needed.

I’ve been noticing fluctuating view counts as well for the first time. Very curious, it can’t quite decide. I experienced a spike at one point when the views for individual images came through at once.

While I am not experiencing floods of spam, I am getting the all-over-the-place stats. Not only are the numbers not matching, (visitors and views as shown in different places on the stats page) the numbers sometimes go down rather than up. Ironic that today is the first day in ages that the little “How can we help?” message has not appeared once today when I actually am experiencing a problem. ; ]

I’m checking with our data team on this and I’ll get back to you as soon as I have more information.
Thanks for your patience!

It seems to have corrected itself since yesterday. Counts are steady (at least for now).

Glad to hear things are back to normal.
If you were noticing spam visitors at the same time as your stats were fluctuating that can be related, as we try to remove spam visitors from your counts.
It’s also important to remember that stats aren’t real time, and can jump up and down, especially when you are viewing stats for today.
If you notice historical stats fluctuating, that’s when it’s most important to let us know so we can investigate.
Thanks for the reports!
