Error

  I have an error on my word press after installing the new 2.1 version. it’s in my foot in the admin section the error is:

  Fatal error: Call to undefined function: spawn_pinger() in /home/twofouin/public_html/lanebuni/wp-admin/admin-footer.php on line 13

  i never encountered this in the old version. can you please tell me what i need to do?

  We are running a very different version of the WordPress software here at WordPress.com and don’t do our own installs. You need to be at the WordPress.org forums, where I’m sure there are people who’ve encountered something along the same lines and who will be able to help you.

  Had me curious as I was thinking it was a plugin causing the issue. Looks like one of the update services is timing out that may be the cause.

  Thank you DrMike.

  What i tried is to disable all plugins to see if there is some plugin that may cause this. but wasn’t. i disabled the spawn_ping function and it worked. but was it safe? :)

  If you disable the function, it’s just not going to send out notices to the update services. You’re going to have to figure out which service is timing out and remove it from your list.

  But, as TT says, you do need to be over at the other site.

  edit: Just for reference, I found another mention of this in teh wp.org forums. If your host is running PHP as a CGI, that may be an issue as well. That’s usually not recommended.
