Error 500 after updating the version
-
After updating to the new version I get error 500 and I’m unable to access the site completely. According to many guides, it might be a corrupt htaccess file but I cant access the site through ftp. What can be done?

Hi there –
It sounds like you are working on a self hosted WordPress site. Can you share the URL here?
For help with self hosted WordPress sites you will want to post at https://wordpress.org/support/
What happens here at WordPress.com is a bit different from the self hosted version. This guide outlines those differences: https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

Hi, thanks for replying. The link: http://www.cnocmhuiregranard.ie/wordpress/
It’s a school website and I’m not too familiar with it as I’ve only started working there as a computer technician. I’ve tried to update the WordPress version as some of the plug-ins didn’t work properly and I ended up with the error 500. I don’t know if its self hosted, is there way to check? The person who was responsible for this site is gone for a long time and no one at school knows anything about it.

Howdy!
This site is not hosted with us at WordPress.com. For help with this site you’ll want to checkout https://wordpress.org/support/
When you do a ‘whois’ search for cnocmhuiregranard.ie you’ll see that the name servers are pointing to Blacknight and not WordPress.com.
