Error Code trying to import from Tumblr
-
Tumblr returned an error: 401 oauth_signature does not match expected value
How can I fix this? My previous posts imported without issue, but for new posts I am seeing this error.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi folks,
We suspect this is a problem on Tumblr’s end. It seems their API is broken, preventing us, and other services, from connecting to them.
Please report this to Tumblr support – the more users report it directly to them the better the chance they will fix it quickly.
We are also looking into the issue from our side.

Just an update: It appears this might be due to a change in Tumblr’s API that we were not aware of. I’m just waiting for a developer to confirm, but this might be something we can fix from our end.

Hi all,
This should be fixed now. Please clear your browser cache and cookies, then log back into both WordPress.com and Tumblr and you should be able to create a connection to Tumblr in the Sharing section again.

For which site is this? If the site had been connected to Tumblr previously you might need to remove the connection from their end as well first, before you can reconnect:
https://www.tumblr.com/settings/apps
Also make sure that third-party cookies are enabled in your browser, and that you’re logged into Tumblr already when you try to authenticate.
If possible, also check if you’re able to create the connection using a different browser.

I am importing to my site linandara.com from my Tumblr blog using WordPress Tumblr importer, up to date. Used it for a very long time before.
I tried in Firefox and Chrome, same result. Third party cookies are not blocked.
I even created a new app in Tumblr. Still same outcome, unfortunately.

same here
I tried the importer again, same error code message
i’m trying to import posts from southernpsychgroove.tumblr.com to https://southernpsychgroove.com -
Your sites are not hosted on WordPress.com, but using the open source WordPress software found on WordPress.org. We have no control over the Tumblr importer plugin on your sites, or with how it authenticates your connection to Tumblr.
You can find support for that plugin here:
https://wordpress.org/support/plugin/tumblr-importer
Most likely the plugin needs to be updated to authenticate over a https connecting instead of http – Tumblr made that change to their API recently and updating our authentication form http to https fixed this issue for WordPress.com sites.

Hello again @kokkieh and thank you for your quick reply.
There is a thread in the importer plugin forum regarding this issue, but it remains unanswered for two months now:
https://wordpress.org/support/topic/tumblr-importer-error-code/The wordpress installation I have on my site is brand new, so it’s 4.9.4 the latest release, therefore I am guessing the Importer plugin I have is the last update and since that topic is still open for two months, no solution for this issue has been implemented.
So what now?
-
It looks like that plugin was last updated two years ago, and its page is showing a warning that it might no longer be compatible:
I’ve gone ahead and created a support ticket for the Core team in https://core.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/43330#ticket
I can’t guarantee if it receive attention any time soon, but I suggest you follow that so you’ll see when someone is able to work on this.

-
I don’t know if you’re following that Core ticket, but looks like it has been fixed on that end. If you run into any more issues, please comment directly on that ticket. You’ll need to register a WordPress.org account to comment there if you don’t have one already.

i had same problem , i edited ‘tumblr importer’ plugin file, and it worked.
first take a look at this discussion
https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/tumblr-api/P0gK8MqGP5Utumblr changed their oauth endpoint from ‘http’ to ‘https’, so i changed some ‘http’ into ‘https’ , but not all ‘http’ in the plugin file.

Please see the Core ticket I referenced above. This has already been updated in the Core plugin so just updating the plugin should also work.
