Error Completely Deleted My Draft
-
I had an entire post almost finished. I was changing the positions of two images that had captions. I did a CTRL-X to pick up the first image and when I pasted it in, the editor errored out, wouldn’t show the caption, when I clicked on the comment icon it wouldn’t bring up the caption area to type in, then wouldn’t let me out of the image editor. When I tried to get out, the editor deleted my entire post, then autosaved it and left it with no revisions. I can’t find any temporary files on my computer to pull it from.
I’ve been working on this post for two or three days. There have been plenty of revisions. How do I access the last revision before the editor errored out and erased everything? I spent a lot of time on this post getting the wording just right and was getting ready to apply all the attributes so it could be posted.
Also, how do I get rid of that annoying message that constantly wants me to change to the block editor which seems even more problematic than this one?
Many thanks to anyone who can help out.

Hello there,
I’ve been working on this post for two or three days. There have been plenty of revisions. How do I access the last revision before the editor errored out and erased everything? When you write or edit post, WordPress automatically saves content every few second.
You can find those prior versions under revisions.
You can browse through below link to know how to retrieve prior versions.

This message is displayed by WordPress.com itself to encourage users to learn new block editor
. It can’t be deleted.I hope it helps. If you have more queries post here. I would love to help.

Thank you so much for the reply. Unfortunately, I tried both things in the links you provided, but because it autosaved after it deleted my entire post it resaved the revisions to 0. I tried the one from the administrator’s window but that didn’t work either. I put two lines in the post in hopes it would pick up the previous day’s edits, but that didn’t work – it still would only show edits made after it had been autosaved as an empty document. The previous day’s work has to be somewhere. I just don’t know how to access it.

Hello,
I would feel disappointed same as you if I lost my work. I marked this thread as modlook so staff can look after.

It’s alright. I’ve given up on WordPress and found another blog site provider which I feel is more supportive to my creative endeavors.

What was the post URL? I would love to take a look and see if there is any way to recover your post – even if you wanted to use the content elsewhere.

The only thing left in that post are the two lines I typed into the empty document to see if I could force the revision function to pick up the MULTIPLE previous revisions. I’ve already gone ahead and rewritten and published the post elsewhere.
You might want to look at the problem of moving images that contain captions. As far as I can tell, these can not be moved either through drag and drop or CTRL-X, CTRL-V. Trying to move them was what caused the blog editor to erase the entire blog page and for some reason it immediately saved that empty page. The images had been saved to wordpress, they were not linking to another site.
